What about????..........

Had a talk with Mr Spehn today which was rather bittersweet but I did ask a few ??s and I thought some of us wanted to know the answers to so here you go:

Big Dipper-no idea what is going to happen with it yet or maybe didn't want to say

Dino Island-Not planning on opening (crap! I loved that thing-it was fun and an awesome place to get cool if you were hot)

Geauga Lake Merchandise: Will be discounted and for sale next season at WWK! Yea! I was actually VERY happy to hear that! :)

Said GL looks very depressing and torn up right now. Lots of expensive equipment to move.
I'm glad I'm not near the park cause it would be terrible seeing it disappear.
Apparently they have been meeting with planners on how they are going to zone the land commercial or real estate before getting a price.
The talk seemed almost like we were discussing the death of a friend. I felt so bad! Bad for Geauga Lake and really, really bad for CF :(
But it was great seeing Mr Spehn walking around the park. He was even making it a point to compliment the ride pride sweeps today on what a great job they were doing! :)

Although the whole GL thing sucks, I am glad to see CF held on to Mr. Spehn.

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that?

What exactly is so special about Big Dipper? It seems like a Blue Streak to me...

It was built like 80 years ago.

So was Blue Streak...

Well Mr. I never go to any other park but CP, let me tell you.

BD is a 1925 John Miller classic with tons of air and classic rolling stock with no seat backs or (ughhh) seat dividers like BS to obstruct your view and to make you more confined in your car. BS was built in the early 60's and while it gives an OK ride does not compete to BD and is not yet a classic yet in my book.

MR Spehn not knowing the fate of BD is BS (and I don’t mean Blue Streak). He knows exactly what is going on. Just like when asked in July about the GL closing rumor he said it was just a rumor started by some 16 year olds on the internet.

Wrong! BS was built in 1964.

..and the sensationalist coasterdad strikes again. Seriously. The man doesn't exactly have free reign to just come out and say stuff about the park to any average joe who walks up to him on the midway. People can't always just talk to make you happy. It's unfortunate you can't seem to handle that fact.

I grew up in NYC and have ridden Coney Island's Cyclone tons of times. It was built in the 20's also which makes it a classic. Big Dippers old time hand brake is nothing but a memory, but the hand brake on Cyclone is STILL used.

However for anyone who has ever ridden it the thing could KILL you! Talk about a rough ride, and Cyclone has NO seat belts just a large cushioned bar that comes down on your lap. A few years ago, it took 3 rides on it before I could figure out how to ride it without breaking my neck or damaging my spleen or spine.
As with the Big Dipper I wouldn't TOUCH Cyclone unless I was in the 3 front cars.

Sometimes it's got nothing to do with the actual ride, but everything to do with the ride itself.
Make sense?

AHhhhh – it’s so nice to see how well loved I am here.

Why would I or anyone believe what Bill says? He is not allowed to talk and I know that. The fact that he even says anything about the park amazes me. How about a no comment – but Bill can’t really use his own mind to speak– Dick needs to tell him what to say. As far as sensationalism – I am confused, or is that that just the typical response one gets here when confronted with the truth? I wasn’t the one who posted my comments to him. The fact that it was posted here seems to make me think that someone thought bland untruths that say nothing might be newsworthy.

I rode both coasters and think Blue Streak is much smoother than The Big Dipper. I know Big Dipper is kinda like an ancient artifact that should be preserved but that coaster is not one to be very fond of.

No Dino Island, GL merchandise for sale bland untruths? What makes you think there are untruths there???

Bill has been a friend of mine since 1999. I consider myself much more than just an "Average Joe" as you put it, and I can guarantee his opinion of me is the same.

That's what I always thought. I've never been to GL, but being on this forum for so long, I never heard anything that great being said about Big Dipper. It was a big surprise to me when people started to act like the ride was the greatest thing since sliced bread now that it is closed.

Some of you guys really amaze me about GL. Why is it when something gets old it should NEVER be taken away?

I did see Bill Spehn walking around the park last week with some other park operation managers.

That's right, I forgot that the suits knew back when they worked at the park as seasonals that they would one day buy GL, operate for a few years so they could lose money and then close the park. Apparently they forgot how "smart" some people are and didn't count on a backlash. But wait, the backlash exists pretty much only in cyberspace, and even then is confined to a small few sites. 98% of the people in Cleveland couldn't really care less, and 99.99999999999999% of the people in the rest of the world care even less than that.

Pretty interesting numbers Jugga - where did you find those on Dicks desk?

You can believe what you want - I think more care than you or anyone else here might think.

I do care. It is sad the world has lost another amusement park. So don't think that my lack of belief in some half baked conspiracy theory or that I'm not a geaugalaketoday sheep that I don't care that an amusement park has closed.
