Work on the ummm Impulse

Well super.....i mean impulse is getting a ton of work done on it. I work in Aurora and drive past the park everyday. They have already added a HUGE support to the vertical spike and will be adding one to the twist as well. I will try to take some pictures Thursday if I remember to bring the nikon.

Do you know if it has more supports than Steel Venom?
Check out http://sfohio.tripod.com for a picture of it. The supports are being added to prevent excessive swaying of the towers.

I am no engineer and I wasn't really good at math but the first time I saw one of these rides I said, "gee...it looks like those towers would really move with the weight of a train." I don't know how they got built without the supports to begin with.

I bet it's because they got away with it on Linear Gale in Tokyo, and with triangular track at that. The thing is, that was a shorter train and there were no twists or holding brakes.

What time does the water show start?

Wonder how off the colors are going to be
Can you read my posts? It doesnt say I posted
I can read your post. Anyway what is the speed & height difference with Linear Gale over in Japan? Would that have anything to do with the problems? Or is it just more with the holding brake? I always wondered how that rear tower didn't just snap off when those brakes grabbed. Thats a lot of weight to hold steady with no support.

But then again, what do I know?

According to Coaster Force, Linear Gale is 150ft tall. I don't speak Japanese, but the park's website has 100 km/h (~62 mph) listed in what is probably a list of stats for the ride. I assume that is how fast the ride goes. I am not sure if these numbers are correct, but they most likely are close.

Wow, I thought they should do that when I went there last year! Does anyone know if they are adding this support to any of the other intamin impulse coasters?

Intamin decided that the ride needed the new supports. Also I just recently saw a pic on Screamscape of new supports at SFGAm for V2.
