Your First Pointbuzz Experience

Oh my goodness… until you mentioned Dan, I had almost forgotten about him (sadly, unlike you, I didn’t know him on a personal level) but that man is definitely a legend, and for ever will be, around these forums. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone come as close to the amount of times he has ridden Magnum with any ride. He would definitely be able to handle the “Coasting for Kids” marathon with ease… Oh man… new memory…he sort of already has, hasn’t he? Wasn’t there a group from GTTP that was able to ride Gemini 100 times in a single day (but getting off and back into line after every ride)? Of course, that was when Gemini still ran 3 trains per side, so it was doable back then.

I'll add to this little trip down memory lane. I also joined GTT-PointBuzz-ualMidway in 1999 when MF was announced. I was in High School and I can legitimately say that GTTP turned my interest in CP (and roller coasters) for that matter into a true hobby/passion. I remember printing out pictures of MF that Jeff had took as construction progressed and showing them to my friends at school. Between then and now, I have worked 2 summers at the park, spent well over 100 days in the park as a guest, proposed to my wife there, and changed from a kid who would go to CP only once every summer to an Amusement Park fan who's been on over 100 coasters around the US...

So in a nutshell, thanks Walt and Jeff for turning me into a complete coaster nerd and completely ruining my social life. (/sarcasm)

This is a really cool topic, because I love telling this story. My first experience with PointBuzz was back in 2001, when it was still GTTP. I went to Cedar Point for a class trip in 9th grade. I had never been there, nor had I ever been on a coaster.

That day I chickened out on MF, but conquered Magnum, Gemini, Mean Streak, Iron Dragon, and Disastor transport. I was hooked. I bought the online photo for Magnum, and a post card to go with it. I took it with me everywhere, showing it to everyone who came in my path.

My obsession was rediculous. All I could think about was Cedar Point. Everything reminded me of it. Thankfully that same year was the year that "World's Largest Amusement Park" aired. Somehow the coaster gods knew that I needed my fix. ;)

A few months after I went to CP, we got our first computer. The first thing I looked up was Cedar Point, and that is when I found Guide to the Point. I was so relieved that I was not alone..that I was not the only one obsessed with Cedar Point.

I would visit GTTP at least 10 times a day, including at school. One time my friends actually sat me down and had a little intervention for me. lol. They would not allow me to check it in front of them.

These days they are used to it though. I was actually the one that introduced them to CP. While they are not as obsessed as I am..they make it a priority to at least take one trip a year.

I literally grew up on GTTP. This site taught me more about grammar than my highschool english teacher did. lol. It's funny to read my posts from back in the day, and see how much I have changed. I went by Ivan, Magnum Gurlie, and now Jesz.

So thanks Walt and Jeff for helping me get through a lot of off seasons, and a lot of seasons when I wasn't able to get to the park. :) I don't know what I would have done without this site.

I joined GTTP way back in '99 right before MF was announced. I still have my GTTP shirt! :)

After learning of ttd in Early 2003 i became obsessed with it and Cedar point even more in general. I some how came across guide to the point lookin for info on ttd and lurked on that site for a while and still lurked when they changed it to pointbuzz. It wasnt until 2005 or 2006 i actually joined.

I actually came a lot later than a lot of you. I originally found this site during the fall and winter of Wicked Twister construction, but didn't actually join until 2003 apparently after I had bid on one of the first TTD seats in the auction. I ended up not making the min bid to get a seat that morning, but I did buy my first season pass that year and have had one ever since.
