Cedar Point Press Release
Celebrating Its 10th AnniverSCARY! HalloWeekends Returns to Cedar Point; New Fear Faire Highlights 2006 Event
SANDUSKY, Ohio, 2006 – It’s an event a decade in the making! Cedar Point amusement park/resort is ready to celebrate 10 years of frightful fun as the historic amusement park/resort prepares for its annual HalloWeekends event. HalloWeekends will be held on Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays, Sept. 22, 23, 24, 29, 30 and Oct. 1, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29. During HalloWeekends, Cedar Point transforms into a spooky playland that features roaming Screamsters, spooktacular live entertainment, haunted houses, special areas for kids and of course, the world’s largest collection of scream-inducing roller coasters on the planet! Cedar Point’s HalloWeekends event was recently named the “Best Seasonal Event” in the Readers’ Choice Awards, presented by Theme Parks Magazine, a national magazine that is dedicated to helping its readers discover America’s theme parks.
“Based on the popularity of our three other outdoor walk-through attractions, I think our guests are really going to enjoy Fear Faire,” said John Taylor, manager of graphic services and the mastermind behind Cedar Point’s HalloWeekends decorating. “Fear Faire combines that eerie, spine-tingling feeling you get walking through the Fright Zone with some of the wacky characters and atmosphere you get in CarnEvil. It is the best of both worlds.”
New food items, including roasted corn-on-the-cob, giant turkey drumsticks, Angus beef hamburgers and cheeseburgers and other specialties will be featured at numerous outdoor grills in the park. Guests can enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwursts and popcorn while watching classic horror movies at the Midway Drive-In, located between the Iron Dragon and WildCat roller coasters.
For those who prefer to scream their way through HalloWeekends, Cedar Point offers up plenty of hair-raising attractions, including three haunted houses, Fear Faire, plus three additional outdoor walk-through attractions: CarnEvil on the Aquatic Stadium midway, featuring ominous clowns and sideshow freaks; the Fright Zone on the Frontier Trail, which is filled with thick fog and unearthly creatures that lurk in the dark; and in Frontiertown, Werewolf Canyon, where vicious werewolves roam.
This year’s live entertainment options for HalloWeekends include: “A Trio of Terror from Edgar Allen Poe” in the Glassblower’s Arena; “The Witches of Witch Hollow” in PEANUTS Playground; “Monsters Rock! Eternal Jamnation” in the Red Garter Saloon; DJ Zombo, located on the Main Arcade Balcony; Gypsy Fortune Tellers, near the entrance to the Blue Streak roller coaster; Traveling Gypsy Palm Readers; the King Dapper Combo on the Iron Dragon stage (every Friday and Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.); and much more. Magicians Tim Hill and Chris Linn are back to “wow and amaze” guests of all ages with their unique brand of comedy and magic.
HalloWeekends is also fun for kids. Camp Snoopy transforms into Camp Spooky, featuring special HalloWeekends-themed shows with Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus and Snoopy all dressed up and ready for trick or treat. Kids can also win great prizes at the Kids’ Costume Contest, held on Saturdays and Sundays at 3 and 4 p.m. on the Iron Dragon Midway. Chris Linn’s Magicomedy show at the Palace Theater, the Witches of Witch Hollow in PEANUTS Playground and the friendly dancing monsters on the Main Midway are sure to keep the little ghouls and goblins happy for hours.
Overnight guests can also get in on the fun by staying in one of two haunted Hotel Breakers Jacuzzi suites. The suites feature Halloween decorations, coffin coffee tables, spells, potions, skeletons and things that go bump in the night! A HalloWeekends package includes four tickets for Friday night, two one-day admission tickets and a welcome basket that includes special HalloWeekends souvenirs. (Reservations are currently being taken at 419.627.2106.)
During HalloWeekends, Cedar Point will be open Friday nights from 6 p.m. to midnight; Saturdays from noon to midnight; and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (On Sunday, Oct. 8, Cedar Point will remain open until 10 p.m.) On Friday nights, some rides and attractions will not be open. With the exception of Sunday, Oct. 8, the fright zones will not be open on Sundays.
