Cedar Point / Firelands Red Cross Press Release

Firelands Chapter of the American Red Cross to hold fund-raiser for first public rides on Cedar Point's latest scream machine

SANDUSKY, Ohio, 2007 - The Firelands Chapter of the American Red Cross, in cooperation with Cedar Point amusement park/resort, is holding an auction for thrill-seekers who want to be among the first riders on the park's new Maverick roller coaster.

The Red Cross is auctioning seats on Maverick to the 72 highest bidders, with bids starting at $75. A winning bid will include continental breakfast at the park, commemorative medallion, the inaugural ride on Maverick and complimentary admission to Cedar Point on Opening Day, Saturday, May 12.

Successful bidders will select seats, with the highest bidders choosing first. Due to Maverick's shorter trains, winning bidders will have even more opportunities to choose a coveted front or back seat ride! With six, 12-passenger trains, there will be 12 front seats and 12 back seats to choose from.

Cedar Point will take guests to new frontiers in fun with the debut of its latest scream machine, Maverick. Located in Frontiertown, Maverick will take its passengers up and over the 105-foot-tall lift hill and down to Earth at an astonishing 95-degree angle at speeds of up to 57 mph! From there, the train will hug the terrain as it twists and banks around hairpin turns with quick but smooth changes in direction. Throughout the 2-minute, 30-second ride, passengers will also experience eight "airtime-filled hills," three inversions and a second launch through a 400-foot-long dark tunnel that will leave them in awe as they reach speeds of 70 mph! (Guests must be at least 48 inches tall to ride Maverick. Rider restraint system may not accommodate all guests of appropriate height.)

The Firelands Chapter of the American Red Cross is accepting Maverick bids now through 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9. For more information on how to place a bid, please log on to the Red Cross Web site at www.firelandsredcross.org or call 419.626.1641, or 800.589.2286 (toll-free in Ohio). Bids will also be accepted by fax at 419.626.9244 or via e-mail through the Red Cross Web site.
