Maverick Update - Park Begins Track Modifications

Cedar Point Press Release

SANDUSKY, Ohio, 2007 – Cedar Point announced today that track modifications to Maverick, its new roller coaster, are underway. The replacement track sections were delivered late Monday evening and Tuesday this morning. Installation began immediately.

The new sections of track were fabricated at a manufacturing plant in Europe for IntaRide, the ride manufacturer. The track was then flown to the United States and transported by truck to the park.

Four sections of the existing track were removed last Friday, eliminating the “heartline roll” that followed the ride’s second launch.

During pre-opening testing, it was determined that there was stress on the coaster’s trains at this location. To improve the guest experience and to eliminate this stress, the heartline roll maneuver was replaced.

The new element, described as an “s-curve,” will not include an inversion. The “s-curve” will keep riders above the track as they quickly change direction while they maneuver through a right turn into a left turn. No other sections of Maverick will be modified.

After the track is installed, Maverick will undergo additional pre-opening testing. When that testing is completed, the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s Amusement Ride Safety Division will inspect the ride. After its inspection has been completed and the ride is licensed, Maverick will open to the public. The park hopes to open the ride in early June.

In addition, IntaRide, the ride manufacturer, has recently revised the height requirement for Maverick. Riders must now be 52 inches or taller to ride.
