Cedar Point Press Release
Cedar Point to host coaster aficionados from around the world
SANDUSKY, Ohio, 2007 - When it comes to roller coasters, these people know their ride. How tall is Magnum? They can tell you. Where is the best seat for "airtime" on Millennium Force? They know. What is the best roller coaster at Cedar Point? There are at least 17 different answers for that one, but they each claim to know which one it is.
Who are they? They are roller-coaster-enthusiasts and next week they will converge at Cedar Point amusement park/resort and Geauga Lake & Wildwater Kingdom to ride some of the world's best scream-inducing roller coasters.
On Sunday, June 10, approximately 75 members of the Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain will conclude their two-week tour of the United States by visiting Cedar Point. The tour, dubbed "Coaster Heaven" will take the group to amusement parks around the country including Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Mo., Valleyfair in Shakopee, Minn., and finally the grand finale of their trip, a day at Cedar Point.
"There is no point visiting America on a roller coaster tour if your don't stop by Cedar Point," exclaimed Andy Hine, chairman of the Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain. "It is home to some of the biggest and best coasters on the planet and when asked which park they would most like to visit, our members always say Cedar Point!"
Hine formed the Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain in 1988 as a way to unite people with the same passion and enthusiasm for roller coasters as himself. Almost 20 years later, the group now boasts more than 1,200 members from 15 different countries! The club organizes a variety of events for its members, including trips to parks in England and the United States.
On Friday, June 15, Cedar Point will play host to more than 1,200 coaster-enthusiasts from around the country as the park celebrates its 19th annual CoasterMania! Coaster-lovers will begin their day bright and early at 6 a.m. as they ride Millennium Force and Maverick - Cedar Point's latest thriller! In all, the group will have more than 10 hours of exclusive ride time, otherwise known as ERT, a question and answer session with top Cedar Point executives, a catered lunch and a scavenger hunt where they can win valuable Cedar Point memorabilia.
With 17 roller coasters, Cedar Point is a thrill-seeker's dream come true. Whether you want the adrenaline rush that the Top Thrill Dragster, the 420-foot-tall, 120-mph steel giant, and the 310-foot-tall, 93-mph Millennium Force provide, or if you are just starting out on the 19-foot-tall Jr. Gemini, Cedar Point has something for you. In fact, Cedar Point boasts more coasters than any other amusement park in the world! Last summer, Cedar Point gave nearly 17 million roller coaster rides.
As if that weren't enough, on the day after CoasterMania!, the group will be heading off to Geauga Lake & Wildwater Kingdom in Aurora, Ohio, to ride the park's impressive collection of eight roller coasters during CoasterEXT - the park's third annual EXTreme coaster event. The group will take park in ERT on the Villain, Raging Wolf Bobs, Dominator and Thunderhawk roller coasters in addition to contests and a luncheon with the park's Vice President and General Manager Bill Spehn.
Geauga Lake & Wildwater Kingdom's coaster collection offers ups, downs, twists and turns for riders of all ages. The 82-year-old Big Dipper was built in 1925, while the Beaver Land Mine Ride, introduced in 2000, provides coaster thrills for young riders and their parents.
