Legal roller coaster for thrill parks

Sunday, 26 August 2007

For Cedar Point and area waterparks, lawsuits go with the territory of offering thrills to millions of guests each year. Some, experts say, see deep pockets and dollar signs after taking spills on park property.

The Sandusky Register reports that there have been 61 law suits filed against Cedar Fair and/or Cedar Point in Erie County Common Pleas Court since 2000. The cases include:

  • A couple sues Cedar Point on behalf of their daughter, who tripped and fell over a wooden surface board at the park's marina.
  • A man sues the park, claiming he was injured on Blue Streak. A dip on the ride caused the plaintiff to “strike his face and head on the front of the car,” the lawsuit states.
  • A woman sues Cedar Point after she says she fell on a walkway behind Hotel Breakers.
  • A woman sues Cedar Point after she claims to have fallen while "walking on a sidewalk in a dimly lit area" during HalloWeekends. The woman claims in the suit that cables and electrical wires were recklessly placed across a sidewalk in an unsafe and dangerous manner.
