SANDUSKY, Ohio, May 19, 2003 – It’s the announcement that you have waited all winter for … Soak City water park is set to splash open its doors for the season on Saturday, May 24. Those who thought that summer might never come can rest assured now knowing that those warm, fun days of summer are right around the corner.

Soak City is a massive 18-acre water park located between the towering roller coasters of Cedar Point amusement park/resort and Lake Erie. This watery paradise features wet and wild fun for the entire family. The little ones can play the day away in two areas they can call their own, Tadpole Town and Choo-Choo Lagoon. More adventurous guests can fill their need for speed on more than a dozen body and inner tube water slides, or surf the day away in an enormous 500,000-gallon wave pool. For those who need a break from the action, two lazy rivers, shaded picnic areas, a swim-up refreshment center and beach offer the perfect getaway. Refreshment stands, a merchandise shop, rental lockers, shower and rest room facilities are also offered.

In 2002, the lifeguard staff at Cedar Point earned the “Platinum National Aquatic Safety Award” from Ellis and Associates, Inc., Kingwood, Texas. Less than 7 percent of Ellis and Associate’s clients worldwide earned this prestigious award given to lifeguard staffs who consistently exceed the requirements for aquatic safety certification and provide the highest degree of swimmer protection in the aquatic industry.

Soak City will be open daily from Saturday, May 24 through Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1. The water park will also be open for two new bonus weekends: Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 6, 7, 13 and 14. Operating hours will vary throughout the summer. Admission to Cedar Point is not required. Proper swimwear is required for admission to Soak City. Height requirements are in effect on Soak City attractions.

If you are looking for great live entertainment, look no further than Cedar Point. This year’s live entertainment lineup promises to put the “rock” in America’s Rockin’ Roller Coast.

New this year will be “StarStruck,” a celebration of song and dance at the Centennial Theatre. Back by popular demand will be everyone’s favorite beagle, Snoopy, and the rest of the PEANUTS gang in “Snoopy Rocks! On Ice” at the Good Time Theatre (“Snoopy Rocks! On Ice” will open on Saturday, June 21) and “Snoopy’s Summer Spectacular,” a nighttime extravaganza of light and sound, will be shown nightly at 10 p.m. (weather permitting) beginning on Friday, June 6.

Other live entertainment options include the wildly popular “America Rocks,” showcasing the greatest rock and country music hits of the heartland at the Red Garter Saloon; “Heart of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” featuring legendary songs from vintage rock to the music of Motown at the Palace Theatre; “Splash 2003” in the Cedar Point Aquatic Stadium; and karaoke at the Red Garter Saloon. Younger guests will enjoy “Campground Capers” and “Campground Karaoke” at Camp Snoopy. (Show seating is limited; schedule is subject to change.)

The Live Entertainment Division was a proud winner of four “BIG-E” awards, which acknowledge the most outstanding examples of entertainment in the amusement industry, at the 2002 International Association of Amusement Parks & Attractions (IAAPA) Annual Convention and Trade Show.
