Companies cope with Twitter imposters

Cedar Point among companies facing problems with fake Twitter accounts.

Twitter has pledged to crack down on people impersonating celebrities by creating fake Twitter profiles but is moving slower to protect companies facing a similar problem.

Cedar Point recently faced that issue when a person outside the park held control of the Twitter account @cedarpoint.  The company received an email from marketing consultant David Goebel who offered to hand over control of the @cedarpoint account in exchange for season passes. He also suggested that Cedar Fair hire his firm, Goebel Group Inc. to maintain the park's Twitter account.

Goebel eventually surrendered the Twitter account at Cedar Fair's request.
