Cedar Point Makes Donations To Local Organizations

Park makes monetary and food donations totaling more than $6,000 to two local organizations.

SANDUSKY, Ohio – To help those in need during the holidays, Cedar Point has made monetary and food donations totaling more than $6,000 to two local organizations.

Recently, the Sandusky, Ohio, amusement park/resort has given all the money found at the park last summer, more than $1,500, to the Victory Temple Soup Kitchen in Sandusky.  Cedar Point’s Loose Change Fund originally began in 1988 and since that time has collected and donated more than $186,000 to local organizations.

Last month, the park also donated nearly $4,500 worth of food and canned goods to the Victory Temple Soup Kitchen and the Salvation Army.  Donated items included potatoes, potato salad, baked beans, chicken salad, apples, eggs, cheese, potato chips, tortillas, lettuce and tomatoes.  In the last two years, Cedar Point has given more than $8,000 in food donations to local organizations.

“These gifts are a huge help to us during this time of the year.  There are a lot of families in need,” said Rev. Lonnie R. Walters, senior pastor of the Victory Temple Church.  “We are extremely grateful for these donations and Cedar Point’s continued support of the Victory Temple Soup Kitchen.”

During the season, Cedar Point employees collect and turn in any money found along the midway, beneath the rides and in the park’s water attractions to the Loose Change Fund.

“These are two very worthwhile organizations.  Their mission is to help people in need,” said John Hildebrandt, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point.  “It is satisfying to our employees to be able to help the people of our community.”
