Cedar Point Press Release
SANDUSKY, Ohio, April 24, 2012 -- Whether you're a hard-nosed competitor or as green as the turf, here's your chance to putt around for a good cause.
The Firelands Chapter of the American Red Cross will host its 21st annual Miniature Golf Challenge on Wednesday, May 9, at Cedar Point's Challenge Park. Sign-in for the 36-hole, four-person scramble begins at 4 p.m., with a shotgun start firing off at 4:30 p.m.
Golfers may enter as single players or form teams of four for $30 per person. For just $5, spectators can come cheer on their friends and family and receive three raffle tickets to win the ultimate guest package at Cedar Point. That package includes an overnight stay in a Horizon Suite at the historic Hotel Breakers, which features a panoramic view and Jacuzzi for up to four people, along with four tickets to Cedar Point. It's a prize package worth more than $800!
Anyone who purchases raffle tickets will be eligible, and they don't need to be present to win.
Those who thrive on taking chances can attempt a hole-in-one at Challenge Park's most difficult hole for $5 per putt. All it takes is one in to win!
Businesses are also encouraged to show their support for this event by sponsoring a hole in the golf scramble. For $50, they'll receive a professional sign showcasing their name.
Since it began, the Miniature Golf Challenge has raised approximately $130,000 for the Firelands Chapter of the American Red Cross. Funds benefit the chapter's disaster assistance program, which provides temporary housing, clothing, food and supplies to families in crisis.
Last year, the Firelands Chapter of the American Red Cross helped about 60 families in Erie and Huron counties who were left without a home after a fire, flood, tornado or other disaster.
For more information about the Red Cross Miniature Golf Challenge at Cedar Point or to register by the May 4 deadline, call 419-626-1641. Businesses should also call by May 4 to secure sponsorship.
As an independent voluntary organization, the American Red Cross depends on the generosity of the community's time and money to provide disaster relief. The Firelands Chapter was formed in 1968 through a merger of three separate chapters. The first to form was the Erie County Chapter in 1916. The Huron Chapter was chartered in 1917 and the Willard Chapter was chartered in 1930. Together they form a two-county chapter which serves 136,000 people.
Cedar Point will open for its 143rd summer on Saturday, May 12 and will be open daily through Labor Day, Sept. 3, plus Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays, Sept. 7 through Oct. 28. For a complete operating calendar and more information about the 2012 operating season, guests can log on to www.cedarpoint.com or call the park's general information line at (419) 627-2350.
