SANDUSKY, Ohio, Aug. 1, 2012 -- Disaster Transport made its final run for charity on Sunday, leaving behind fond memories and a legacy of helping children with life-threatening illnesses.

Cedar Point partnered with Give Kids The World to host Disaster Transport Final Dispatch: A Mission for The Kids, a last-ride celebration that raised more than $16,000!

Nearly 80 participants made a minimum donation of $50 to take part in the festivities, which included an hour of exclusive ride time on the whimsical space-themed bobsled coaster, a souvenir T-shirt and a piece of the ride's entrance sign.

The event will make it possible for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families to enjoy a week-long vacation free of charge at Give Kids The World Village in central Florida. They'll help create lifelong memories for children like 7-year-old Jillie Snyder of Oak Harbor, Ohio, who has a rare disorder that requires her to undergo frequent blood transfusions.

"There are simply no words to express our heartfelt gratitude to Cedar Point for their overwhelming support," Give Kids The World President Pamela Landwirth said. "Turning the closing of an attraction into an incredible fundraiser speaks volumes about their desire to make a difference in the lives of the precious children we serve."
