Cedar Point opens after water main break

Park opens to guests Monday morning after being closed for weekend

A water main break on the line feeding Cedar Point forced an unprecedented park closure Saturday and Sunday.

The Sandusky city engineer said a 16-inch cast iron main that supplies water for Cedar Point broke between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. Saturday.

City crews fixed the main and completed testing by 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, but the fix came too late for Cedar Point officials, who decided to eliminate further uncertainty by closing the park until Monday.

The water main, installed in 1959, has broken three times since 2003. All three times, however, were when the park was closed.

Signs were placed throughout the area to warn tourists of the park's closure.
