Charles Schulz dies of colon cancer

Tuesday, 15 February 2000

As you've probably heard, creator of Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts Gang, Charles Schulz, died late Saturday night from complications involving colon cancer. His final comic strip appeared just hours later in Sunday newspapers all over the world, where he announced his retirement.

The official Peanuts site issued a press release explaining the future of the characters as it will be handled by United Feature Syndicate.

The Peanuts characters came to Cedar Point in 1999 as part of the new Camp Snoopy attraction, a collection of new family rides including the Woodstock Express roller coaster. Parent company Cedar Fair apparently acquired amusement park rights to the characters when they purchased Knotts Berry Farm in California in 1997.
