Cedar Point responds to Magic Mountain

Cedar Point Public Relations Manager Janice Lifke had this to say in response to the press release from Six Flags Magic Mountain:

"Cedar Point is taking the 'high road' and does not want to get into a desperate shouting match with Six Flags Magic Mountain about which park has the tallest roller coaster in the world. From our standpoint, it's quite simple: It is highly debatable in the amusement industry if Superman The Escape is indeed even a roller coaster. While I'm sure it is an incredible thrill ride, and for that matter, the tallest thrill ride in the world, we do not consider it to be a roller coaster.

There is absolutely, positively no debate about whether Millennium Force is a roller coaster, and we are standing by the facts that at 310 feet high and 92 mph, it will be the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world when it opens in May of 2000. Cedar Point prides itself as always being very cautious and accurate when laying claims to world records -- we only release the facts straight up after plenty of careful research. We really don't feel we have anything to defend. We think Millennium Force will speak for itself."

We did a little digging and found that Guinness actually lists Japan's Fujiyama as the tallest coaster in the world at 239 feet. I guess that makes SFMM a fraud!
