Live entertainment announced for '99 season

Tuesday, 30 March 1999

We've got the official line-up of new entertainment options on the peninsula, and to no surprise it includes a high dive-show. "Splash!" will debut in the Cedar Point Aquatic Stadium (TAFKAO: The Arena Formerly Known As Oceana) on Saturday, May 29. The 20-minute show will feature eight "Olympic-caliber divers as they display raw talent and athleticism in a 20-minute non-stop action show..." The show is being produced for CP by Sacco Shows out of St. Augustine, Florida. Tuesdays will be the off days. This is purely speculation, but if the show is contracted out, you have to wonder how permanent of an affair it really is.

As revealed by PR rep Stephen Norton in last week's MSN chat session, this year's IMAX film will be "Extreme." It's the usual ESPN2 fare in glorious 70mm with a "contemporary soundtrack" (and we're hoping this means ear-bleeding techno). The show will open with the park.

And new for this year, a show that might make the Summer Sucktacular worth hanging out for. An eight-piece band with four vocalists will perform "Jump, Jive & Jam" each night (except Wednesdays) prior to the light show. They'll perform a variety of styles spanning five decades starting June 26.
