More changes for 1999

Tuesday, 08 December 1998

The Paddlewheel Cafe was demolished last week to make way for Coasters, a Fifties-style diner. It will be tricked-out with all of the neon, stainless steel and jukeboxes you'll find in similar establishments at other parks. Food will include the usual Fifties diner fare. Sorry, no drive-in service available. We hope it will be cleverly positioned to alleviate the congestion in this area.

The old Bear Country in the San Francisco Earthquake building will be home to all of the Peanuts merchandise you can afford. The face of the building will resemble a 20-foot dog house. The adjacent outdoor Bear area will get a Peanuts theme, with many of the same elements, some new, though specifics have not been determined.

The CP Grand Prix will be replaced by three tracks of varying lengths, 700 to 1,500 feet. The new cars will be stock go carts.

If you want to get a closer look, don't bother. The CP cops will spank your sweet bottom with a trespassing charge.

And finally, the Oceana midway will be home to tumbleweeds for the 1999 season. A committee is still exploring its options for the stadium and aquarium, which range from new entertainment to razing the structures.
