Cedar Point Press Release

SANDUSKY, Ohio – The first day of summer kicked off with a wedding of aquatic proportions. Over 40 couples entered the park’s “Take the Plunge” wedding contest for a chance to have their ceremony held at the new Cedar Point Shores Waterpark. The hopeful couples submitted photos of themselves and reasons why they should be married at the park.

A panel of judges selected Rachel Zaborowski, a membership specialist for Girl Scouts of Central Illinois and Steve Gifford, a sergeant in the Illinois National Guard. The couple resides in Springfield, Ill.

During today’s ceremony at noon, the couple exchanged their vows, professed their love in front of gathered family and friends and officially took the plunge on Point Plummet, Cedar Point Shores’ new six-story aqua-drop body slide. Accompanying them were best man Ben Gifford and “retired master sergeant of honor” Sean McRae. Zaborowski and Gifford were already making plans to wed in Sept., but decided they would jump at the opportunity to be married at Cedar Point.

“Cedar Point is a special place for us, and has been the location of many memorable visits,” said Zaborowski. “Our first time in the park together was at HalloWeekends 2015, and it really made us realize how much we enjoyed each other.”

Now known as Mr. & Mrs. Stephen Gifford, the sopping-wet newlywed couple will enjoy a two-night stay at Cedar Point’s iconic beachfront Hotel Breakers, admission to Cedar Point and Cedar Point Shores, Fast Lane Plus access during their visit, a FunPix digital photo pass, dinner at the park’s Bay Harbor casual fine dining restaurant, park tickets for their family and friends and memories of the ceremony that will last a lifetime.
