Usenet rumors

The rumors continue to fly on Usenet. One of the things I see over and over is that Cedar Point "has the money" for that next big coaster. However, consider a few things... Cedar Point's attendance declined slightly last year while Cedar Fair acquired Knott's Berry Farm and is knee deep in capital improvements, particularly at Cedar Point. We had the construction of Power Tower and the ongoing construction of Breakers West. In fact, according to Cedar Fair's president, they spent $32.66 per guest company wide. For '98 CF is spending $38 million. That includes Mamba (at Worlds of Fun), Power Tower, and the first part of Breakers West. I think they're looking to duplicate the CP formula at other parks. Also take into account the acquisition of Knott's, and you've got a lot of spending going on!
