Sandusky schools OK Cedar Fair tax abatement

The Sandusky City school board approved Cedar Fair L.P.'s 10-year, 100 percent tax abatement yesterday, the Sandusky Register reported.

Under the agreement, Cedar Fair will receive a 100 percent tax abatement and make payments of $70,000 per year to the school district. The 100 percent abatement allows the school district to maintain its state funding.

"When property tax values go up in the city significantly, there is a corresponding loss of state support," Troy Bouts, Sandusky City Schools Treasurer told the Register.

Sandusky Schools' Superintendent Bill Pahl, who recommended the abatement to the board with Bouts, said he thinks "everyone is going to come out a winner in this."
