Cedar Fair, L.P. announced yesterday that the company is considering the conversion of its Radisson Hotel into a year-round family resort complex with an indoor water park.
Cedar Fair will apply for a tax abatement from the city of Sandusky, Brian Witherow, Cedar Fair corporate director of investor relations, told the Sandusky Register. It will mark the first time Cedar Fair has ever made such a request.
Sandusky Economic Development Specialist Mike Will told the Register that Cedar Fair is seeking a 10-year, 75 percent tax abatement for the estimated $21 million hotel expansion.
"When you talk about that much money and that much investment in the city, you have to think long and hard before you say, 'no,'" Will told the Register.
Witherow did not specify when the application would be filed, but told the Register that Cedar Fair "won't be going into it slowly." He added that details are still being worked out and anticipates a detailed timeline and plan to be revealed in September.
"We are looking for a way to improve what we already have and this seems to be a popular concept," Witherow told the Register. "Great Bear gave us an idea of what we can do locally."
