Dragster halted after cable frays

Wednesday, 14 July 2004

Four people in the first two rows of Top Thrill Dragster received minor injuries when metal shavings came loose from a cable on Monday evening.  The ride remains closed.

Cedar Point spokesperson Janice Witherow told the Sandusky Register the guests were taken to the park's first-aid center and were treated. Cedar Point offered to transport the guests to the local hospital for precautionary measures, but they refused and went back into the park.

Witherow also told the Register  that the cable that frayed was one of the cables that was replaced earlier this season.

Melanie Wilt, a spokeswoman with the Ohio Department of Agriculture, told the Plain Dealer the incident was minor and that the department is not investigating.
