The four Sandusky city commissioners who repealed a city parking tax last year have taken a stand against changes to the city's admission tax proposed earlier this week, the Sandusky Register reported.
The proposed changes to the city's admission tax includes increasing the rate to 3.75 percent from 3 percent and expanding the tax to include marinas, campgrounds, nonprofits and parking.
Despite the new packaging, Commissioner Brett Fuqua told the Register that it's still a paid parking tax. He is against collecting admission tax from parking and non-profit organizations.
According to Cedar Point spokesman Robin Innes, the park paid $2.5 million in admission tax and $1.5 million in income and hotel taxes to the city of Sandusky's general fund in 2004, the Register reported. The city's general fund budget in 2004 was $18.2 million.
