Mechanical building fire put out quickly

Friday, 18 February 2005

Grinding work at Kiddieland Refreshments briefly caused a small fire on Thursday, the Sandusky Register reported.

Web cam images showed smoke coming from the building around 3:50 p.m.  Workers had been grinding an exhaust vent on the roof when sparks caused nearby insulation and structural beams to ignite.

Sandusky firefighters were called, but the fire had already been knocked down with fire extinguishers by the time they arrived.

Sandusky fire Battalion Chief Mike Yost estimated the damage to be only $1,000, most of which was limited to materials that are being removed.
