Cedar Point Press Release

HURON, Ohio, March 23, 2004 – The Erie MetroParks Board of Commissioners recently voted to accept a check for $24,000 from Cedar Point amusement park/resort to fulfill its obligation for an Ohio Environmental Protection Agency permit it received in 2001.

The permit allowed the park to fortify approximately 1,500 feet of shoreline during the first phase of construction of the Lighthouse Point upscale camping complex that opened in 2001.

The money will be used to assist the MetroParks in preserving unique natural habitats and improving native species diversity.

"We are very pleased to partner with Cedar Point to help improve and protect the environmental quality of life in the East Sandusky Bay area," said Jonathan R. Granville, director-secretary of the Erie MetroParks. "It is especially fitting that this money will be used for an area that is so close to the park."

According to Granville, the targeted area will be approximately 1,200 acres of coastal marshland located along Cleveland Road between Griffing Airport and the Cedar Point Chaussee. The funds will be employed specifically to restore and protect the marshland and to assist in the control of invasive non-native plants that are overrunning the wetlands.

Erie MetroParks consists of 12 parks in Erie County that offer a variety of nature, recreation and children's programs for its visitors. Its mission is to preserve, conserve, protect and enhance the natural and unique historical resources of its district.
