One of 32 people charged in what law enforcement officials have called the largest drug ring investigation in Michigan's history was arrested Monday at a Cedar Point hotel.
Agents with the federal Drug Enforcement Agency arrested Lavert "Vito" Dafney, 33, of Detroit, at about 6:30 a.m. Monday in his room at the Sandcastle hotel. Bryan Edwards, a Cedar Point spokesman, said no weapons or drugs were found in Dafney's room.
A federal grand jury handed down indictments against Dafney and 31 others last week, following a 16-month investigation by federal, state and local law enforcement. Each is charged with contributing to a drug trafficking organization that distributed more than 30,000 kilograms of marijuana, for which alleged ring leader Quansand Lewis collected more than $178 million in gross profits.
