SANDUSKY - A precautionary boil alert for city water customers will continue through this evening, affecting residents and restaurants in the area. The line is being repaired.

On Wednesday, a break in a main supply line was discovered in a field on the west side of town.

A precautionary boil alert was issued for all city water customers, including those outside of the city limits in other areas of Erie County. Water must be boiled for a minimum of one minute. If air or discoloration appears in the water lines, run the water until it is clear.

Bathing and washing of clothing during this boil alert and will not result in a health hazard.

Engineering Director Kathy McKillips said the break affected all parts of the city because the broken line caused low water pressure. Including the county, the city has about 13,000 water customers.

Some people reported yellow water on Wednesday, and companies reported fire alarms were going off because of the low water pressure.

Cedar Point spokesman Bryan Edwards said the park wasn't affected by the boil alert because of the "unique distribution" it has from the city's water treatment plant. The park tested its water all day, and all tests came back normal, he said.

Cedar Point's off-park properties, Breakers Express, Castaway Bay and TGI Friday's, were affected by the alert. Boiled water was used for cooking, and guests were given bottled water to drink, Edwards said.
