Cedar Point Press Release
SANDUSKY, Ohio, August 27, 2005 - For the eight consecutive year, Cedar Point amusement park/resort was voted the "Best Amusement Park in the World" in the recently announced Golden Ticket Awards, a prestigious annual poll conducted by Amusement Today newspaper.
Cedar Point's 310-foot-tall, 93-mph Millennium Force was given the honor of "Best Steel Roller Coaster in the World" for the second year in a row and fourth time in the last five years. Three other Cedar Point steel scream machines were also ranked high on the Golden Ticket Award's top steel coasters list. The history-making 205-foot-tall Magnum XL-200 came in at No. 3; the stratospheric 420-foot-high, 120-mph Top Thrill Dragster grabbed the No. 7 spot and the Raptor inverted roller coaster landed at No. 11.
Since the initial poll in 1998, a Cedar Point roller coaster has nabbed the top honor for steel roller coasters in every year but one (2003). The Magnum XL-200 was ranked first from 1998 through 2000, while the Millennium Force captured the top spot in 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005.
Other top honors for Cedar Point include "Best Souvenirs" and "Best Games Area." These two awards are chosen once every three years by readers of Amusement Today.
"It's a great honor to win several Golden Ticket Awards this year," said John Hildebrandt, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. "This recognition is a credit to our staff who work hard to provide our guests with the best day of their summer."
The Golden Ticket Awards are presented to the "best of the best" in the amusement industry by Amusement Today, the Arlington, Texas-based publication that reports on international amusement and waterpark news and trends.
Amusement park fans all over the world were asked to rate the "bests" in 25 categories, such as "food," "roller coasters," "live entertainment," and "amusement parks." This is the eighth year for the Golden Ticket Awards, which are considered the "Academy Awards" of the amusement industry.
