Cedar Point Press Release

SANDUSKY, Ohio, Aug. 31, 2005 – Summer is not over yet! Cedar Point, recently voted the “Best Amusement Park in the World” for a record eighth consecutive year, and Soak City, the Cedar Point of waterparks, will be open for two Bonus Weekends. Cedar Point amusement park/resort will reopen for Bonus Weekends on Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays, Sept. 9, 10, 11, 16, 17 and 18.

On Friday nights, the historic amusement park will be open from 6-11 p.m. with a limited ride offering; some rides and attractions will not be open. On Saturdays and Sundays, Cedar Point will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Soak City waterpark will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Soak City will not be open on Friday nights and will close for the season on Sunday, Sept. 18. Cedar Point will then kickoff its HalloWeekends on Friday night, Sept. 23.

Returning to the Cedar Point Marina Wednesday, Sept. 14 through Sunday, Sept. 18 will be the North American In-Water Boat Show. The Great Lakes’ biggest in-water boat show will feature more than 700 sail and power boats from all the top brands – ranging from six feet and a few hundred dollars to more than 60 feet and $1 million! Show-goers can shop for a pre-owned boat on the Brokerage Pier, pick up a bargain at the Boats Under $15k Pavilion, take a free Discover Sailing sailboat ride, learn from a pro angler at the Hawg Tank or relax on the Party Barge.

Admission to the boat show does not include admission to Cedar Point. Boat show hours are from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

It’s a mystery, 100 years in the making. Guests staying at Cedar Point’s historic Hotel Breakers during Bonus Weekends, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 9, 10, 16 and 17, and who reserve the mystery package, will have the opportunity to join an elite detective agency and solve a “Murder Mystery.” Aspiring detectives will arrive at the park on Friday for dinner and an informational program. Later that evening, guests will search deserted, behind-the-scenes locations for clues. Special informational meetings will also be held to aid in the case. Throughout the weekend, participants will gather facts, conduct interviews and share notes. Then, on Saturday evening, the mystery will be solved.

A mystery package includes a two-night stay at the Hotel Breakers for two people; pizza buffet for two on Friday night; breakfast for two on Saturday morning; dinner for two on Saturday night; and admission for two to Cedar Point on Saturday to participate in all of the mystery events. Please call 419.627.2106 for more information or to place a reservation. But hurry! Space is limited.

The world’s largest touring grill, the Johnsonville Big Taste Grill, will be at the world’s largest amusement park, Cedar Point amusement park/resort, on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 16-18, cooking up Johnsonville bratwursts for hungry park guests. Cedar Point will be open from 6-11 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The Johnsonville Big Taste Grill is no ordinary backyard barbecue. Weighing more than 53,000 lbs. and extending to a length of 65 feet, this giant grill is so big it requires its own semi-truck to haul it from one location to another! The grill has the capacity to cook more than 750 brats at a time – approximately 2,500 per hour – and can accommodate more than 12 “grillmasters.”

The Big Taste Grill will be located on the Iron Dragon midway, near the laser show screen. Special meal deals will be available, along with Pepsi products and cold beer.

Cedar Point will be open daily through Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5. The park will reopen for Bonus Weekends and HalloWeekends on Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays, Sept. 9-11, 16-18, 23-25, 30, Oct. 1-2, 7-9, 14-16, 21-23 and 28-30.
