Point says Dragster has green light

SANDUSKY - The Top Thrill Dragster is working again -- just in time for an expected busy weekend.

Cedar Point will be open from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday, two hours later than usual because of Monday's Columbus Day holiday.

"A lot of people have Monday off of work and school, and we just noticed there was that demand and we wanted to meet the demand of the guests," said park spokesman Bryan Edwards.

The fright zones, including CarnEvil will be open on Sunday because of the later hours.

Last year was the first time the park stayed open later because of Columbus Day. The year before, Cedar Point had a busy weekend because of the Columbus Day holiday, but wasn't open later.

Edwards said the motor has been repaired on the Top Thrill Dragster, which has been down since Sept. 2 because of mechanical problems. Edwards had no additional information on what was wrong with the roller coaster or how it was fixed.

Edwards said the coaster should be working through this weekend and for the rest of the season.

The roller coaster may be down intermittently this weekend as the park gets it running consistently, though, he said.

Since debuting in May 2003, the Top Thrill Dragster has operated sporadically.

Cedar Point experienced trouble with the ride's prototype hydraulic oil system and launching cables in 2003-04, and four riders were injured on the ride in July 2004 when a cable frayed.
