SANDUSKY - The Cedar Point attraction once known for being the longest hydro-flume ride in the world is nearing the end.

White Water Landing will be removed from the park after the season ends Oct. 30.

Although there are no plans for the space, "it's valuable land for potential future improvements," park spokesman Bryan Edwards said Thursday.

White Water Landing is in the rear of the park, between the Mean Streak and the Antique Cars rides.

Built in 1982, White Water Landings simulates a wild river ride, according to a Cedar Point press release. When it opened it was the longest hydro-flume ride in the world.

Edward said the ride's waning popularity was another reason to remove it.

"We don't like to take rides out of the park," he said. "We really like our ride and roller coaster collection, but we might have something better to put in area, or use it for something else."

In 24 seasons, White Water Landing has given more than 28 million rides.

In August, Cedar Point announced it also wanted to get rid of the Demon Drop, off of the Main Midway in the front of the park.

Edwards said the free-fall ride hasn't been sold yet, although the park has been talking to a couple of interested people. The Demon Drop will remain at the park next season if it isn't sold.

Cedar Point is also removing the Demon Drop to make room for improvement projects, but nothing is planned. Edwards didn't know if Cedar Point was going to try to sell White Water Landing.
