Cedar Point Press Release
SANDUSKY, Ohio, Dec. 16, 2005 - The Cedar Point Marina was recently certified by the Ohio Clean Marinas Advisory Board as an Ohio Clean Marina. The title "Ohio Clean Marina" is given to marinas that meet the rigorous pollution control standards established by the Ohio Clean Marinas Program Committee. In addition, the Cedar Point Marina was recognized for its measures to control pollution associated with marina operations and to healthy land and water in and around Cedar Point.
"We are extremely pleased to have one of Ohio's Clean Marinas," said Bob Highlander, director of marina operations. "The Cedar Point Marina is one of the finest facilities on the Great Lakes, and we are committed to keeping our waters safe and free of pollution and contaminates."
The voluntary Clean Marinas Program for Ohio was developed by the Ohio Sea Grant College Program at the Ohio State University along with the help of the Lake Erie Marine Trades Association (LEMTA), the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNA), and private marinas along the Lake Erie shoreline. The program encourages Ohio marinas and recreational boaters to utilize simple, innovative solutions to keep Lake Erie clean. 2005 marks the first year that Lake Erie marinas were recognized for their clean and safe environmental practices.
The Cedar Point Marina will expand in 2006. The marina will add three floating piers to the South Harbor. It will also add 77 clips for permanent dock-holders and build an 85-space parking lot north of the North Harbor. When completed, the Cedar Point Marina will have 742 slips (643 permanent and 99 transient slips).
