Cedar Point Press Release
Historic amusement park/resort to debut new nighttime spectacular; first amusement park to use 'firewater' technology
SANDUSKY, Ohio, 2006 – Cedar Point amusement park/resort, home of the most exhilarating collection of thrill rides and roller coasters, will heat up its 137th season with the debut of a new nighttime show, “Hot Summer Lights: Fire Up The Night!”
Taking place nightly at 10 p.m. (June 2 – Aug. 20) on the Iron Dragon midway, this all-new sensory experience will showcase a combination of music, sound, light, video and pyrotechnics. The centerpiece of “Hot Summer Lights” is a brand new special effect called “FireWater.” The FireWater system features torch-like flames that can be choreographed to music and reach heights of 25 feet into the air. Cedar Point is the first amusement park in the world to use this technology.
“We couldn’t be more excited about this brand new nighttime extravaganza,” said Marje Rody, vice president of live entertainment at Cedar Point. “Our guests will love the combination of video, music, lights and the amazing FireWater effect. It will be a great way for families to end their day at Cedar Point.”
In addition to the new FireWater technology, “Hot Summer Lights” will feature images and video projected on Cedar Point’s giant screen adjacent to WildCat and Iron Dragon, measuring 50 feet high and 72 feet wide. A state-of-the-art sound system and 3-D computer graphics projected at several different locations on the midway will complement the show.
The 2006 Live Entertainment line-up doesn’t end with “Hot Summer Lights.” Returning for its second season is the PEANUTS ice-skating show, “Snoopy’s Summer Vacation.” Intricate ice-skating routines, the PEANUTS gang, lively music and colorful costumes round out this ultimate summer cool-down in the 850-seat Good Time Theatre, located on the Main Midway near the Dodgem bumper cars.
Guests can take an American musical journey with the return of “Livin’ In America” at the Centennial Theatre, located near the Main Entrance. In this live show, Cedar Point’s singers and dancers will perform everything from Motown to Disco.
The Red Garter Saloon will come alive with the best of rock music in “Rock The House!” This high-energy live show features the talents of a live band, singers and dancers as they rock the Red Garter Saloon on the Frontier Trail all summer long.
The stars of tomorrow are performing today in an all-new show at the Palace Theatre in Frontiertown. “Divine Divas” features six women who sing and dance their way through today’s hottest hits, cool jazz and a tribute to the “King” of rock ‘n’ roll himself, Elvis.
Fun-filled antics and extreme high-diving return at the Cedar Point Aquatic Stadium with “Extreme Splash 2006.” The whole family will enjoy comedy, breathtaking dives and an extreme finale with a high-dive from 80 feet in the air.
Children can get up close and personal with the PEANUTS characters at the Camp Snoopy Theatre. Snoopy, Charlie Brown and Lucy appear in “Charlie Brown’s Funtime Frolics” and “Snoopy’s Sing-A-Long.” These two song-filled shows are geared toward Cedar Point’s younger guests.
In addition to all the great live entertainment options, Cedar Point is now more affordable for families. A regular admission ticket is now $39.95, $5 less than last year. The Ride & Slide ticket, which includes admission to both Cedar Point and Soak City on two days, has been reduced from $67.95 to $64.95. A Starlight ticket (available after 5 p.m. when Cedar Point closes at 10 p.m. or later or after 4 p.m. when the park closes earlier than 10 p.m.) is now $24.95. In 2005, a Starlight ticket was $27. The popular Junior and Senior tickets return for only $9.95 each.
The park will also hold or reduce pricing on a number of food items including fresh cotton candy that will be spun and sold on the midway for only 25 cents a stick.
