SANDUSKY - Cedar Point is debuting a new nighttime show after 10 seasons of laser lights.
"Hot Summer Lights: Fire Up The Night" will take place at 10 p.m. June 2 through Aug. 20, on the Iron Dragon midway.
The centerpiece of "Hot Summer Lights" is a special effect called "FireWater," according to park spokesman Bryan Edwards.
The FireWater system features torch-like flames reaching heights of 25 feet. Cedar Point is the first amusement park in the world to use this technology, Edwards said.
"The flames are shot out of the boxes and it makes a big burst," he said.
In a press release issued Friday, Marje Rody, vice president of live entertainment at Cedar Point, said guests will love the combination of video, music, lights and the FireWater effect.
In addition to the FireWater, the new show will feature images and video projected on Cedar Point's giant screen next to the WildCat and Iron Dragon.
"We are keeping with our commitment to keeping the park fresh and new," Edwards said.
New rides and attractions draw the most attention, while the live entertainment is popular, but not widely discussed, he said.
Cedar Point's first nighttime show was in 1995, Cedar Point Summer Spectacular. The show involved lasers, although was changed a little bit over the years. Most recently it was Snoopy's Summer Spectacular.
"People stay around for it," Edwards said of the nighttime show. "It's a great way to end the day."
Also new for 2006, will be "Rock The House" at the Red Garter Saloon. The live show features a band, singers and dancers.
The new show at the Palace Theatre in Frontiertown is "Divine Divas," featuring six women who sing and dance.
Extreme Splash and the Peanuts characters shows also will return to the live entertainment lineup for 2006.
