SANDUSKY - Directional signs pointing drivers toward food, gasoline and lodging on Cleveland Road will be placed at Monroe Street and Huron Avenue.

A restaurant sign will also be erected to direct tourists toward First Street's Lyman Harbor Marina.

The decision to put up the signs near the Cedar Point signs already in place was agreed upon after Commissioner Dennis Murray made the suggestion at Monday's meeting.

Commission didn't support Vice Mayor Dannie Edmon's suggestion two months ago to close the Butler Street ramp to force more tourist traffic onto Cleveland Road. But Murray said he hopes the signs let people at least know about the offerings on Cleveland Road. The signs will be similar to the universal symbols for food, gasoline and lodging, per request by Murray.

City Information Officer Kelly Kresser said the signs should be up in the next two weeks, if not sooner. They are being made by city staff.

In other city news, staff is still waiting for an engineering survey to complete its research on if the pier track near the eastside boathouse is city property. City Manager Mike Will said an updated title report already affirmed the city owns the property, but he is waiting for the survey.

Last spring, several members of the Cove Park Association spoke against the city's proposed master plan for a bicycle-pedestrian path that would expand to the pier track.

Property owners argued the former railroad track was private property.

Commission also agreed Monday to stop hanging door tags notifying people of delinquent utility payments and shut-offs. Finance Director Ed Widman said a delinquency notice will continue to come through first-class mail.

Widman said it will save time because city staff had to personally deliver the door hangers.

Law Director Don Icsman's office is drafting a letter to the Ohio House of Representatives and Senate and Attorney General about soaring gas prices. Commissioner Dave Waddington is concerned gas prices could be as high as $3.50 per gallon by the end of the summer.

With the rising costs, city residents will have to decide about filling their tank or buying groceries or medicine, he said.

In a few weeks, commission could also be considering allowing larger vehicles more than two hours to park on residential streets. Murray said those with vehicles taller than 6 feet have been cited recently.
