SANDUSKY - Sandusky City Commission wants to make sure Cedar Fair -- which is considering relocating its headquarters from the city -- knows just how much it is appreciated.

In a letter from commission to Dick Kinzel, president, chairman and CEO, the commissioners congratulated him on Cedar Fair's acquisition of Paramount Parks.

The May 31 letter wishes the partnership success in integrating all of the parks into one organization.

"We are pleased to see that Cedar Point will remain the partnership's flagship park," the letter stated. "Of course we are biased, but we could not imagine it any other way, knowing the park as we do. After all, the management that so keenly understands, anticipates and drives consumer demand is deeply rooted here," commissioners wrote.

The commissioners said, in a modest way, they would like to think Sandusky and Erie County have contributed to Cedar Fair's success.

"Ohio and particularly the Firelands region remain bellwethers for the country. But we trust that you observed the same long ago and see the same value in this fertile soil."

With the Paramount acquisition, Cedar Fair officials have said the lease at the Paramount headquarters in Charlotte, N.C., is being looked at for a possible move. The lease is up in September, according to Stacy Frole, director of investor relations for Cedar Fair.

Frole said Thursday no decision on headquarters has been made yet.

"We don't feel we need to make a decision immediately," she said. "The lease runs through the fall."

In their letter, commissioners pledged the city would continue to support Cedar Fair, recognizing the partnership's needs may be changing.

"We value the partnership which Sandusky and Cedar Fair have enjoyed in recent years and look forward to expanding upon that in any way possible."
