CP up for visit by CBS

SANDUSKY - Cedar Point still doesn't know if CBS news correspondent Steve Hartman and his father will be visiting the park.

Cedar Point is one of three destinations CBS has asked viewers to choose among as part of its Assignment America project.

Cedar Point is competing against a Detroit Tigers game or Hartman and his father participating in a national shuffleboard tournament in Lakeside, said park spokesman Robin Innes.

The results were supposed to be announced during the CBS Evening News on Monday, or at least Innes thought. The destination with the most votes wins.

A July 17 press release on the CBS Web site indicates viewers would get to know next Monday where Hartman and his father are headed. Voting closed 2 p.m. Monday.

However, even coaster enthusiasts pushing for the park to get the guests of honor were thinking it was Monday night as well. In an e-mail sent to the Register, one person writes: "Let's help send Steve and his dad to the world's best amusement park."

Innes said he's calling CBS today to see if he can get any details.

If Cedar Point did win, he has to arrange the trip. The trip to the park would run July 28 on the CBS Evening News with Bob Schieffer.

Innes said CBS picked Cedar Point as part of the project, which is focusing on the Midwest. CBS could not be reached for comment Monday, although its Web site explained the idea behind the contest.

"The major networks (CBS included) spend millions of dollars every year trying to figure out what people want to see on TV. Yet, in the end, much of the programming isn't what you would have picked at all."
