We asked the fans to help us pick the top stories of 2016. Here are the results.
* Editor's Note: We inadvertently left the July 30 water-main break off the list in the survey. No doubt it was one of the top 10 stories of the year, so we're including it as a bonus entry.
Cedar Point was forced to close early Saturday, July 30 after a water-main break occurred on the main line suppling water to the park. Cedar Point reopened the Sunday, but the resorts and Soak City remained closed until Monday. Another water-main break in 2014 closed the park for two days.
Construction crews finished work at Sports Force Parks at Cedar Point Sports Center. The $23.5 million multi-stadium complex is expected to bring a significant economic boost to the area.
Cedar Point update their mobile app in 2016 to include wait times for rides while in the park. The feature had been high on enthusiasts' wish lists for years.
For 25 seasons, Challenge Park was an area of upcharge attractions designed to provide additional activities to hotel guests and season passholders. The area closed toward the end of the season to accommodate construction of Cedar Point Shores and the expansion of Hotel Breakers.
For a few weeks in July and August, Cedar Point offered guests chance to beta-test a virtual reality experience on Iron Dragon. Riders wore a Samsung Gear VR and experienced a virtual world while riding.
With a successful two-year renovation of Hotel Breakers under their belt, Cedar Point announced plans in August to add an additional six-story tower to the hotel. When it opens in 2018, Hotel Breakers will have a total of 669 rooms.
