Cedar Point new security checkpoint

I agree, although I never did say I wanted them to do it permanently, only when they actually need to when there's a threat.

Is this looking to be a permanent checkpoint?

I hope not. Too early to tell.

Has anyone confirmed that there was an ACTUAL threat, as opposed to rumors of a threat? Or just playing it safe b/c it's July 4th weekend?

Are you saying that absolute enforcement of the 4th amendment is more important than stopping terrorist threats? That's sure what it seems like. I'm not saying it's always okay, but for you and him to say even under circumstances where it could potentially save lives that you STILL think it's an invasion of privacy, I think that's just not right.

I don't think you understand that our entire government is based on liberties and a criminal justice system that presumes innocence. The same people waving the flag are the ones who want to make exceptions, not just for law enforcement powers but the way we treat our enemies. Think about that in the event that someone happens to consider you the enemy of some ideal. I'm not a paranoid nut job wanting to go off the grid in the mountains in Idaho, but the reason I'm not is because I believe that these principles must be upheld as law. If you don't see a downside, I strongly suggest you look into McCarthyism and see what it did to this country.

It doesn't look too crowded there today. At least on the webcam showing the queues for MF and Rougarou. But I think on July 4th, the big crowd usually doesn't arrive until mid-afternoon. I hope the extra security didn't scare everyone away.

. Wasn't too crowded AM but started at lunchtime, so back at the motor home until evening. No security hold ups evident yet.

According to all of the news outlets, it is just threats of mostly lone wolf attacks.

Not that I could really imagine somebody attacking Cedar Point of all places.

Statistically speaking I think the chances of them being a target are low but it would be a desirable target. The point being to mess with our western way of life and cause us fear think about it. Large group of people in a relatively small space so the opportunity to have a large amount of casualties is there. There's a patriotic celebration going on and what's more "American" than a day at the amusement park? It would totally fit the bill for a target. Unless CP was actually mentioned in the chatter though I do feel it's not likely.

Agree to disagree I guess. I value an individual's life more than their rights, but whatever.

But does that individual value their life more than their rights?

There's a HUGE difference between looking through a car because of a terrorist threat and a cop randomly coming to your house and your property with no logical reasoning and doing a search.

I never said the two are the same. You pulled out the "nothing to hide" argument and I was simply showing how that's a really dangerous mantra to have.

What Jeff, Walt and Benjamin Franklin said. If we give up our liberties and 4th Amendment rights in the name of "safety" then Game Over, the terrorists have won.

What Pete said. They will have taken away our freedom by convincing us to give it away.

You people are insane. Now I can see why people at other forums say what they do about this place.

Are you really too stubborn to realize that this is what leads to the attacks in the first place? Just look at airports; the stuff they do there is 100x more invasive than a car search, and it's prevented numerous attacks. The lives of our citizens should always come first, and of that means a simple car search then so be it. There's a reason that suspects in a crime who refuse to give up a DNA sample are immediately placed at the top of the suspect board. The same principle can be applied here, as something so non-invasive as swabbing the inside of your cheek or a simple and quick car sweep is NOT something that "undermines basic human rights", given that there is a legitimate threat, which the park believed there was.

Resorting to name calling? Classy...... ::edit:: Changed your choice of wording eh?

Some people have differing ideas about what it means to have and express our freedoms (shocking I know). If you want to roll over and except any intrusion on our freedoms after a Government official says "But it's for our safety." then you don't have a true understanding of the situation. We should be questioning everything our Government does under the guise of freedom and safety.

And just out of curiosity, is what people saying on other forums about PB akin to: "Whaaaaaaaaaa they disagreed with me and I couldn't handle it! They're a bunch of meanie, doo doo heads!"

This forum is nowhere close to bad...See ParkFans...Remove or change one thing from BGW and it's all pitchforks and anti Sea World Entertainment big time...They still don't forgive the park for removing a damn sundial in front of Pompeii...

Or DIsney fans...my word I can't even relate to ANY of them. I feel like they go to the park just to be angry.

Do you have data to back this up? We flew for 90 years without the protection of the Patriot Act and its TSA army and how many attacks on/with a plane occurred in that time period?
