announcement date 8/18/15

I wondered if they'd also cancel Coaster Campout weekend, but doesn't appear so as it's business as usual.

As for the VR app, it appears as though the countdown embedded in the app is not set for the 18th, rather an earlier date. I've tried changing the date on my phone to be later and it just shows a negative countdown.

Probably because they want a pure report from the media on project 2016, they are trying to avoid references of the incident yesterday in the news reporting for project 2016.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

...because someone died at the park less than a week before the announcement, the PR team had an unexpected much heavier workload related to the tragedy and any business in such a situation would want to appear respectful of the loss?

No!!!! I seriously can not believe this. I understand why CP is doing what they are, but COME ON! Ive been Waiting soo long! Ugg. I feel depressed.

While I do not agree with this decision I do understand why they are postponing the announcement. I doubt the family will have a funeral by the original date, and I'd bet a lot of CP staff themselves are rather troubled right now. It has to be hard for them to get excited for next year after what happened yesterday. If the announcement would have been scheduled a week or 2 ahead I doubt they would have changed anything, but only 5 days away might be a bit soon.

In general, a delayed announcement isn't a problem because it's not going to delay opening of the attraction next year. However, it may affect season pass sales as I'm sure they were going to use the 2016 announcement market them. During the earnings call they mentioned they were going to be very aggressive this year.

They still have all of September, October and the whole off-season to sell season passes.

I understand that. We really don't know when this will be rescheduled.

The app (with no Internet connection) is counting down to tonight at midnight. So tonight could have been the original release date, or just a date the app developers chose.

I received an email this morning regarding the Campout site being moved to the Antique Cars area. Other than that it appears to be going on as scheduled.

I wonder if they wanted to start pouring footers and doing some site work after the announcement. I am very curious as to when they will make the announcement for next year. It seems odd to me that they are pushing back the announcement due to the accident, but Raptor is back up and running the day after. I've heard people talk about employees not being able to get excited for what coming next year, but what about the Raptor crew?

You have paid enough attention so far to know that someone died, right?

I can understand the stress on the PR team and others who were working on everything for Tuesday is overwhelming. They might have been working on the annoucement 24/7 and now they are working this story.

Some of you on here seem like legitimately bad people right now. Maybe sit the next few days out.

I was reading the comments on that Twitter post, and I can't believe how so many people are being crybabies over this.

I'm not going to cry over this, and yes, I understand that they want this out of peoples heads before they make an announcement (where people can ask questions, though i am sure all of them really have been answered)

But at the same time, i feel bad for the deceased, he made the choice to get himself killed, and in turn it IS now pretty unfair that we have to be punished because of his bad life choice.

Am I being selfish? YES, I am , because I go to have FUN "I" want to have fun, and when someone changes that, where "I" can't have fun, I do get a little mad. I am not a cold person, I live my life trying as hard to only effect other people with positive intentions. HE was greedy, and impatient, and could not wait for lost and found! I've lost a wallet, I lost a phone, guess what , I have a new wallet, some more money, and a new phone. I survived , it was a pain, but i did it! And I did not effect anyones lives for the negitive.

if this happend because of a broken coaster, or even an unlocked or labeled gate, perhaps, but it was obvious! HE WAS A TEACHER! he should know how to read, and right from wrong.

say what you will, but we are being punished because of someone else.

I couldn't agree more with Cedar Point's decision to postpone the announcement. Not only is it the right thing to do, it the most respectful thing to do, despite the circumstances of the incident yesterday.

Not many people would talk about the addition of the (allegedly) new coaster WITHOUT bringing up the unfortunate actions of yesterday in the same breath. This process needs to take time, and quite frankly, 5 days is not enough. To me, the opening of Raptor the next day and the postponement of the announcement have nothing to do with each other. The ride was not malfunctioning, and the investigation was completed.

However, I do wonder if Cedar Point has decided to change the Valravn name. I highly doubt it, although they did change Banshee to Mantis, albeit for different reasons.

^^ Cool

Think it's possible they will wait until the start of Halloweekends to make the announcement? I think that would be a good way to start off Halloweekends and by then the incident won't be fresh in everyone's mind.

Maybe they just skip an event altogether at this point and make it a simple press-release/social media thing.
