Blue Streak Future

I know nothing about Cedar Fair's plans. Having said that, I will now put on my speculation hat...

I can't imagine Blue Streak being removed anytime soon. It's a classic, popular enough ride, perfectly placed, with a (relatively) small footprint.

I can imagine Cedar Fair making the ride and that area more visible. The CP PR rep at NoCoaster a few years back said that surveys of the park's guests had revealed many of them didn't know the park had a beach. (How do you miss a mile long beach?) I'd expect there are many people in the park on any given day who don't ride Blue Streak because they simply don't know it's there.

I have read comments by people (not here) that did not bother checking out Blue Streak at all on their visit to the park because they didn't feel like walking that far when there is nothing else over there. Pretty lame excuse but I think if it weren't on a dead end it would have a longer line. I don't think it is going anywhere (it better not) because it doesn't take up much space. You really can't put anything in it's place unless you took out Raptor too and I just don't see that being a wise decision. I don't think Cedar Downs is going anywhere either. It's one of only three Prior &Church racing derbies left in the world. One of those is actually a reproduction from what I understand and Cedar Downs is the only one that still races instead of the horses just going up and down. Also being a piece of Cleveland history coming from Euclid Beach Park makes it even more special. If it is in the way it will get moved to a different spot within the park. Same with Dodgems. I can see it possibly moved but not removed.

I could see them redoing the entrance to Bluestreak atleast, similar to what they did with Power Tower. BS entrances is kinda in an alleyway between the old pirate ride and the break run.

I think the Blue Streak midway will definitely be getting some TLC in the near future. Originally I thought they might do something like they did with the Gemini midway, perhaps a few small flats or moving/updating some existing ones. However, with the removal of the Theater perhaps something bigger is planned for that side of the peninsula along with an updated Blue Streak Midway. Either way I am sure we will find out in the next year or 2 what the plan is.

Contrary to the feelings of some, and even in spite of the rapidly declining ridership of BS... It will not be following in Space Spirals footsteps any time soon.

I thought it was all sinking into Lake Erie. Oh well.

I think GTT coming down is the start of what ends with the Caddies/Turnpike cars and Calypso being removed. I think logically you want to enhance the stage area for the night shows, possibly moving the stage, while also improving foot traffic during those times. Also, a third “pipeline” from the main entrance would be good. One that dumps at the train station, and proceeds along the backside of the stage/bleacher area.

I think this may be Tony's way of saying Blue Streak is here to stay.

There was never anything for Tony to deny, just wild talk. As for the lights, I have seen lights for different rides on and off all the time, even at odd hours. If they lights are on at 11 pm (which they were) then odds are they'll be on until the Blue Shirts are at work the next day. I would doubt the CP Police are much in the habbit of turning ride lights on and off. As for why they are on? Could be they were doing work and wanted to make sure nothing failed by running overnight. It could be somebody with Cedar Fair was having an event at Bay Harbor Inn and wanted the lights on. Donno.

Sort of makes me wish there were more cameras at CP. Its relaxing watching the lights sometimes.

This means absolutely nothing, as you know.

But at a CoasterMania event, back when CoasterMania was an event that included a Q&A session with various park dignitaries, a park dignitary...I believe a high-ranking official in maintenance (but I don't think it was Monty Jasper; I believe this was before his time...), made the following statement to the CoasterManiacs assembled in the Coliseum ballroom, a statement which generated a room full of applause:

"The Blue Streak will run forever."

Unfortunately, I don't think I have that one on videotape.

Personally, I'd like to see them make some general improvements on the ride. New, cushioned seats would be nice. A fully restored train would be even better, but that won't happen unless we can get some changes in the industry standards (I'm working on it... 8-) ). A set of magnetic trim brakes to smooth out that station approach and modifications to the block controls to allow the trains to run closer together in the station would be even better, and would make the line even shorter.

The ride really isn't historically significant, except to Cedar Point. It's relatively young, built as it was in the mid-1960's, so it's not some 1920's classic like the two Miller coasters Ohio has lost recently. But it IS a very good ride, in a style that simply doesn't get built anymore; it's the oldest ride at Cedar Point that isn't a carousel, and doggone it, it's a whole lot of fun. I hope Cedar Point sticks to that CoasterMania promise and lets the Blue Streak run forever.

Well whoever that maintenance person was God bless them. Blue Streak may not be the tallest or fastest but it full of memories and it gives me the giggles and being happy is the whole point of going to an amusement park.

I found BS to be more ridable this past year. Though the seats are a mean squeeze these days. All-told it may be "young" at 50 but even newer rides become classics.

I personally think that the new coaster will be a pretty nice-looking one, and take up where Good Time Theater and Dorms are. I'm sure the Cadillac/Antique Cars are going to be axed off to. This way, they can remove some of that grass Raptor sits on and install some new paths in that area, so it would no longer be a dead-end. Also, they could tear out Raptor's (usually empty) first part of que and move the entrance to where Pirate Ride building is now. With maybe some new trees and lights, like Gemini Midway, that area would look pretty spiffy!

How have you already arrived at the idea that they're going to build a coaster at all?

Why else would they remove a building if not to build a coaster? :-)

I won't complain if they make Blue Streak's little corner of the park more accessible; there are any number of additions/relocations that don't involve a coaster they could make to that area.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at this thread, and I'm not sure why Blue Streak's future would even be in question.

The o.p. , in answer to nothing in particular, is raising conjecture regarding the future of one of the park's most venerable attractions noting that things are obviously happening on that side of the park. He is stirring it up over here with the speculation that Blue Streak, due to low ridership <(?) and lack of appeal, will most likely be "in the way" of what is surely the direction of future expansion. Then there's the outlandish notion that Blue Streak may be in line for the kind of transformation that several Six Flags coasters are undergoing. Where is that coming from?

I know it's the off season and fans everywhere just ache for something to discuss, whether or not the discussions are based on fact. Even if a topic is based on a loose rumor it holds more merit than this one. Sorry, but I get irritated with talk just for talk's sake.

I imagine that, barring some unforetold natural disaster, Blue Streak just may operate forever. It is a classic, it's over a half century old now, it runs great, it's traditionally a "first big ride" for many, and I bet it's not too difficult to maintain. I'll also echo our Dave's sentiment that they don't build em like that anymore- what was once a giant coaster is deferring to others these days, but it's still providing the same timeless, traditional thrills that it always did.

I'm not sure why some people have such a problem with a portion of a midway that dead ends. That part of the park has been that way since the early sixties, since before Blue Streak was even built. Turnpike, Monorail, and an early version of the Silver Dollar have all lived on that street which isn't all that long, isn't completely blocked by Raptor, isn't hard to find and isn't causing a traffic problem. And those that hate it, for whatever reason, should visit a Six Flags park sometime!
Anyway, I suppose it's possible that there's plans to connect the offending midway up to someplace else, but I hope it's not at the expense of a classic attraction or the grass under Raptor.

As for the nice-looking new coaster slated for the area occupied by Good Times Theatre and The Cedars, I consulted the most reliable source on the subject so far, my Magic 8 Ball. And all it ever says is "better not tell you now", "cannot predict now", and "ask again later". I can't even get "reply hazy, try again" out of it.

I do have to take mild issue with RCMAC, regarding Blue Streak not being that hard to find. I work with the public in my box office job. There are an amazing number of people who can't work out for themselves that the theatre is inside the building they've just walked into, so I can easily imagine there are many Cedar Point guests each day who are completely unaware Blue Streak is there.

I don't understand it either, seems to be a big problem for some people the last few years. Since when has it been a traffic problem? Not all midways have to connect. That area could use some work, and has the potential to be an attractive culdesac.

^^ If someone can't figure out that a theater is in the building, they should be IQ tested. I'd bet it would be a very low score.

Oh, I have absolutely no faith whatsoever in the general public's ability to pay attention to their surroundings, or find their way around. And forget that maps are provided and smiling, helpful employees are at their posts. People will be clueless and lost and will miss things every time.
But those that don't see that beautiful light blue coaster must be staring at their shoes all day. That coaster is Ohio Famous (at least) and everyone's heard of it and has a story about it.

Or... Maybe hitting every area in the park and trying every ride just isn't as important to some folks as it is to us.
But I'm still not blaming that 25 yard dead end.
