Castaway Bay

You get the both of three worlds at Castaway Bay. A Resort, WaterPark, and Cedar Point. I feel sorry for TGWL. *** Edited 7/30/2004 12:37:24 PM UTC by Huggy Bear***
Um, CP is not open in the winter, so technically, you only get the best of two worlds.

Great Wolf Lodge does just fine, and they are not sweating anything. Their parent company is in the Wisconsin Dells where they have about 15-20 year round waterparks. This is why Kalahari is building in the area. And supposedly Kalahari after all is said and done will be the world's largest indoor waterpark.

Well yeah, when Cedar Point is open you have the best of three worlds! ;)
Castaway is not being built to get locals to stay there.

I heard yesterday from some family in Sandusky that another indoor waterpark was just announced for the Comfort Inn out at 250 and Rt 2. Apparently they are adding 100 rooms plus an indoor waterpark of some size.

Did anyone else hear this?

There was an article in the Register a few days ago. Doesn't sound like it'll really compete with the three big water parks. I think it's more along the lines of something to set them apart from other hotel chains on the strip. The article even calls it a "mini water park."

Doesn't the one hotel in Sandusky have a few waterslides. I forgot the name, but it looks like one big log cabin hotel, with a few waterslides outside. Not a waterpark, but I figured I'd point it out.

Smoking Marijuana isn't a bad thing or even a good one, like everything else, its what you make of it.

Yeah, everyone pretty much knows about Great Wolf Lodge. They have a whole indoor park you can't see from the outside real well. 80000 sq ft if I remember right.
The Great Wolf Lodge rooms run from $250-$400 a night. Castaway rooms run $200-$350. *** Edited 7/30/2004 9:30:21 PM UTC by Huggy Bear***
To answer a few questions and clear up some misconceptions in this thread:

1. Great Lakes Lodging, Inc., parent company of Great Wolf Lodge, opened their first indoor water park, Great Wolf Lodge, in Wisconsin Dells. They then opened Great Bear Lodge in Sandusky. They have since added more locations using the Great Wolf Lodge name. The decision to change the Sandusky location to Great Wolf Lodge was to strengthen the national brand recognition of the Great Wolf Lodge name.

2. The GWF Sandusky's indoor water park is 33,000 square feet. Castaway Bay will be 51,000 square feet. Kalahari will be 80,000 square feet, by far the largest in the area. It will not be the largest in the country as Kalahari Wisconsin Dells is currently the largest at 125,000 square feet.

Great wolf lodge is in Traverse City Michigan, Great Bear Lodge is the one in Sandusky, and by the rates I've been getting, Castaway Bay packages are running far cheaper than Great Wolf/Bear Lodge packages.

Not to mention Castaway Bay seems like it will have much more to offer.

I'm trying to get my boyfriend to take me for my birthday in January, but if he doesn't book soon I'm afraid we won't be getting a room. *** Edited 7/31/2004 7:18:31 PM UTC by PunkyPiko***

The Great Bear Lodge in Sandusky, Ohio changed their name to The Great Wolf Lodge. Castaway Bay has a larger water park and their rates aren't as high as TGWL's are.
