I forgot all about that! I remember that scene! Memories (sigh)........

Isn't that the track that they used to keep the other coaches? Now they park the extra train over near the side of the Railroad house. How come they don't have a handicap accessable ramp on the one train? And is that why they take that train off every night and not the other one? Does anybody know what year they got both sets of trains, the ones with the padding seats and the ones without?

Back in the 1970's we ran three trains on most days. The siding next to the enginehouse is where the "short" or third train was stored. These were the cars that came with Albert from the Cherokee Wonderland RR. The two long trains were stored on the main and on the passing siding in front of the station at night. These cars were made locally by Lake Craft Welding in the late 1960's. Rolling stock that was deemed surplus was sold a couple of years ago. some of it went the museum in Hesston, IN.
I noticed this weekend they only had one train running...which is unusual for opening weekend....all the other years I can remember they had 2 running every year. Especially when the park is opened till 10 they always run 2 trains...Maybe Myron was the only train in operating conditions this past weekend?
cp&le rr guy can probably shed some light on this. There may have not been enough operating crews to run two trains.Hopefully it isn't due to a new operating policy from Dan Keller. Worlds of Fun(which is the previous post of Mr. Keller) gets by with a single Crown 4-4-0. Let's hope he isn't going ot try that here.
Wow! Nice to see such an in-depth thread on the CP & LE Railroad.

I too remember that siding that used to be next to the main midway station. I remember that it was cut back to a stub back in the latter half of the 90's.

Then...after MF was built....it was cut out entirely.

What I am very happy to see is that CP still takes an excellent chance on an operating steam park railroad :-) !! Many parks these days are converting (or have converted) over to gasoline powered diesel engines. They are usually "disguised" as steam, though they are not the real thing. I should know.....there is a gas powered train with a fake whistle operating at my home park, SFGAM!

I really do hope that Cedar Point chooses to keep their railroad as coal fired. It was very cool to see that they chose to move the track over a few feet when MF was constructed, rather than tearing the railroad down entirely.

One thing that has been said about the railroad for years in most articles from CP-(not sure how long exactly) is, "Cedar Point and Lake Erie Railroad will begin normal operation around the Memorial Day holiday."

Lets see how far we can get with that.;)

Good point,cp&le rr guy. In my day we didn't start showing up until the second week in May. In fact I don't think they'd let us start until then. Our preview night was held the week before Memorial Day weekend. It was sponsered by radio station CKLW Detroit/Windsor.We ran two trains until about mid June,(except on weekends) when the schools let out and then it was three trains.

Just found out that Maude L (now DRR #5 Ward Kimball) is being sent to the Tweetsie for rebuild. This should insure that it's ready for the DL 50th.
