First Time Applying

ChrisC.'s avatar

Hey PointBuzz! I'm finally applying to work at Cedar Point this season. I'm trying to become a ride host (that's is the only thing I will take) on a coaster. I'm looking for any tips I can get for example the nicest (oxymoron I know) dorm to live in. I also have a brother that will be working too. How can I choose to have him as my roommate. Anything at all would be much obliged.

Thanks,
Chris Cedar

The Bayside apartments or the Common's dorms ar the best to live in. Most of Bayside fills up during the pre-season. So your best bet would be Commons dorms. They have AC and it is generally 3-4 to a room, unless renovations happened/changed that. If you want your brother as your roommate, when you go to the housing desk during processing in, tell them that.

Also, I wouldn't limit yourself to just a ride host for a coaster. No need to be picky your first year. Plus you can cross-train on other rides when your aren't scheduled at your ride.

^ I agree Common's or Bayside are the nicest but I lived in Cedars last season because by the time I got to CP Common's and Bayside were full and it wasn't that bad. Sure it was hot but my roommate brought an air conditioner so it was fine. Plus nothing beats getting up like 20 minutes before your shift and then you don't have to deal with the bus either.
And yea like Erin said don't limit yourself to a coaster- I'm sure you've read that it isn't the ride that makes your summer its your crew.
If you want to live with your brother and you process in on different days, whoever gets there first will just tell housing that you're saving a bed for someone else. They'll take down their information and save a space for when the other person gets there.

The others covered it quite well. I just wanted to add that it's not the ride that will make your summer great, it's the people that you work with and meet while working there. If you don't get assigned to a coaster at first, there is a high chance that you could get moved to a coaster throughout the season.

Yeah I worked on maXair my first season and didn't even want to move to a coaster because I was on the greatest crew in area 1. :) Awesome summer.

Chris,

I worked as a Ride Host the past 2 years. I have been Area 3; which is better known as Frontiertown. It is an awesome place to work. Your Cedar Point ID gets you into CP & Soak City FREE. On Monday Nights. we have Empolyee Ride Night after park closing. If I were you, try to attend as many Employee events as possible, that way, you can meet lots of new people. I will be living at Commons. Not certain on which building yet, but I'll let you know. If you have any questions, you may e-mail me at: jpadden@zanestate.edu, or if your into texting, my cell phone # is: (740) 680-3125. Please DON'T be affraid to contact me if you have questions. I'd be happy to answer them. Also, if your 21, or over, I'll buy you a round.

I'll be there May-October. Let me know when your big 21 is, and we can go celebrate. If you get hired for Area 3, try go get Gemini. That's the ride I'm going to ask for.

They will ask you if you would rather have to deal with more adult audience or smaller children. Tell them you would want to work with more adults. This won't guarantee you coaster but you could get a large flat as well. Just something with a taller height minimum. Like maXair, WindSeeker, Power Tower etc... But there is a possibility they can't work something out and you could be on a smaller ride. But like people say its your crew not your ride. And if you just so happen to get a kiddie area there are chances you won't be there forever and again chances to cross train etc... Multiple people on my crew actually started in kiddie areas and then was moved to us when staffing got better. Just put yourself out there show them you are willing to put yourself where you are needed and they may consider you. I was on Ocean Motion and I put myself out there working through splits (O-1:30/6-C) Volunteering myself to work these extra hours. And I managed to get cross trained at maXair. It was not permanent just a week. But since I was cross trained there I did get sent there a couple more times after. So there is always hope. Just thought I would share my story.

E-mail, or message me on here. There's a good chance that you might get hired for Area 3. You could get to know the other people (returners) in Area 3, which would make your first year way less stressful Chris.
