Iron Dragon disscussion

Jason Hammond's avatar

I 100% agree with Coastern3rd.

Before I had the opportunity to travel to other parks, I was content with riding Iron Dragon. Especialy before half the trees were cut down for TTD.

My first trip to Kings Island was in 2003 and when I rode Top Gun, I was blown away. At least as blown away as someone can get for a Arrow suspended. I also got to ride XLR8 at Astroworld in 2003 and that one was also fun. Especialy backwards. Although I also rode Ninja at Magic Mountain that year, I don't really remember it.

Then early 2006 I got to go to Canada's wonderland and WOW. That is a very unique park. I found it a little hard to navigate. There are some flats there that you don't see many other places. They have at least one that no one else has with Sledge Hammer. Some other not so common (in my opinion) rides thay have are Shockwave and Klockwerks. Anyway, when I rode Vortex, I was shocked to say the least. That had to be the fastest speed and most g's I've ever experienced on an Arrow Suspended.

I have been on Top Gun but not the others. I agree with others that have said that Top Gun is the better ride. However, people who don't like such intense rides don't necessarily like the forces on Top Gun. Those people will definately prefer Iron Dragon.

...and enjoy the rest of your day at Cedar Point, The Am-aaaa-zement park!

I might be on a solo limb but I think arrow's suspended coaster suck period.

Top Gun is terrific, how it hugs those ravines. And Vortex truly is magnificent, especially coming over the mountain and how it goes out over the lake. But that takes away nothing from Iron Dragon. It's a different ride, a different experience. Those first two coasters are thrilling; ID is gentle and charming. It's like comparing apples and Arrows.

So Bootz, are you staying on ID for 07'? Do you get 1st choice to remain as a ride op somewhere you have experience? I just wondered because you seem to take pride in your ride which is cool.

We do not get to choose where we want to be placed, however we can request to be placed at a certain ride, but it is not guaranteed. I didn't request ID this year, but if they place me there I wont complain either.

I know this topic is like 2 years old, but I figured I'd dig it back up. Has anyone noticed that this season that Iron Dragon seems like it's had longer lines this year? I know it's not a popular favorite like most of the coasters at Cedar Point, but a lot of people like to ride it. Personally I like to ride it sometimes to start off my day before I fit in my favorite roller coaster.

My daugther loves the Iron Dragon. Though she doesn't like any of the big coasters. I typically ride it once or twice with her. She and I had a lot of fun riding in the front seat this summer. Its a decent ride. Line wasn't long this year when we rode it (I would guess less than a 10 minute wait). I prefer the old Bat at Kings Island or Big Bad Wolf at Busch Gardens though both of those rides are gone at this point.

Iron Dragon is really a great ride. Its thrilling enough for adults and at the same time not intimidating enough for smaller children. Its great that the height requirement is 46 inches. Hopefully the same thing as big bad wolf will not happen here. This is a ride Cedar Point will have for some time.

I like tghe Iron Dragon! It is fun to sail through the trees! I myself like all kinds of coasters! I am glad to see moe people enjoying it this year!

Life is like a rollercoaster! It is full of ups and downs

I 've noticed the longer lines this year. The previous few years the line was usually only part way back in the queue leading to the steps on normal days. Many times this year it's been in the next couple of queues. A few times it was way beyond that. Saturdays of course are always a little longer.

It's a good coaster. It's not a record breaker, but that is alright. I think it's the first "big" coaster for many children. Iron Dragon is a good family coaster. It's good that they include it for early entry as it gives those that don't want to ride the more extreme coasters a choice. I love the pretzel at the end.

You know one thing that's cool about Iron Dragon is the first drop. Iron Dragon has a nice first drop to it and then you go around the tree-tops and then the second hill going into the helix is awesome too.

My sister and I have an on going joke that we do our "homework" on Iron Dragon. :) It started back when we were both still in highschool, and would go to Cedar Point on class trips. The point to the joke is that ID is so mellow, that you could do your homework or even take a nap while riding it.

I used to love the coaster when I was still fearful of the bigger ones. But now it is just a waste of time in my opinion. It is a great beginner roller coaster though. It was my first. :)

"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"

Haha Jesz, my friend and I joke that we could conduct business meetings on ID, because we've carried on full conversations on that ride without a distraction. The second lift hill would be good for a coffee break between meetings.

It's not one of my favorites, and certainly Flight Deck at Kings Island shows what potential that style of ride has, but I can still get a modest thrill from ID in the last car. I don't think I've waited more than 5 minutes for it this whole season, but then, I almost never go to the park on busy days.

I think the 46" requirement is crazy! It's a kiddie ride! BBW had a 42" requirement and look at how much better it was.

Ah, but Cedar Fair doesn't own or run BBW.

Iron Dragon is an Amazing ride. Great for the younger ones. Busch Gardens always goes a little lower with the height requirements. 48 inches would be about the right height for BBW. Flight Deck is also 48inches. 46 inches is good for iron dragon.

I definately do not think that it is a fail. It is great for kids, and people like my mom who don't care for a lot of air time.
