Iron Dragon disscussion

Since I wasn't at Cedar Point at the start of Halloweekends, I was just wandering If the "Oh yeah" guy was still working Iron Dragon? I'm going Sunday and it would be fun to cheer him on at times. :)

Haven't been there this Halloweekends yet either. I hope he is there. I really like the Iron Dragon crew this year, they were nice and made jokes. One said, "So do you think ID is better than the browns". I know I gave one of the crew members an associate thank you card because of how friendly and polite they were being.

^ That's a funny joke to anyone that likes the Browns...haha! Anyway though, most of the time I ride Iron dragon to see what the lines look like on Millennium Force and Top Thrill Dragster. Even though it's not as thrilling as the new and updated stuff, I grew up with this ride. Aside from that though, I hope the "Oh yeah" guy is there because he makes a ride like Iron Dragon very entertaining. :)

You know, after riding Manta at SeaWorld Orlando, I always thought that the layout for Iron Dragon would be good for a flying coaster. Forst I though Raptor's track would, but then I realized how rough it may feel on that cobra roll. Iron Dragon's track would be cool if it was a flyer. You go right over the water, and through the forests on all those turns. Although it wouldn't have a loop, it would still be a fun experience. I'm not saying it COULD happen, in fact it could be impossible, but it would be a pretty thrilling experience for families and thrill-seekers.

Let the conversion rumors begin!

Valravn Rides: 24| Steel Vengeance Rides: 27| Dragster Rollbacks: 1

^ If that ever happened, I would hope they add a couple loops in there. :)

No. If they're going to do a B&M flyer, they should do it right. Nice and new, smooth, purpose-built, and perhaps with an LSM launch element.

Edited to correct "Rhett" to "they". Thanks, Swype...

Yeah, I hope we have seen the last of the conversions. I will actually miss Mantis as a standup as I enjoyed that aspect of the ride and thought the layout was excellent for the standup trains. But, like I said before, if more people can enjoy the ride as a sitdown then that's probably a good thing overall.

Going forward though, new, purpose-built rides are the way to go, as they have always done at CP. I'll even say leave Mean Streak alone and if a RMC hybrid is in the picture, build a completely new ride structure to go along with the RMC box track.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

With the conversion they can paint the supports orange and the track Greenish Blue ;)

So does anyone think that the ID queue line needs to be extended? It sure was cut short with the addition of the stage. I notice on busy days that line overflows out.

The queue is a bit short now, but if they still ran three trains (do they even run two efficiently??), it wouldn't be an issue.

I think they need to add Fast Lane to ID.

I loved ID before they built Mantis and Dragster. Back then, the entire ride was deep in the woods, and riding it at night was absolutely awesome.

They killed the best part of the ride experience when they razed the trees where Mantis and TTD are now, not to mention closing it early because of the shows.

I agree with the comment about the first drop being good, and it is still a fun ride, just not nearly as good as it once was.

Iron Dragon has 2 major issues today-

-They run 2 trains. I heard people were complaining about being "rushed on", and with the whole IROC procedure of not checking restraints until the platform is clear (overkill), it might be even harder to run 3 trains without stacking today.

-The height restriction went up. I mean, come on! 48"? Ninja at Six Flags Magic Mountain - a Bat/Vortex level suspended coaster - has a 42" restriction!

(Though Six Flags has draconian height restrictions on other rides - 54" on Intamin hypers vs 48" on MF, although MF was originally 54", that's a topic for another day. That might be a reaction to the SFNE ejection accident.)

FWIW, the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, we got in line, and it was just back to where it first turns (under the brake run) and we waited more than 35 minutes. Not to mention, the guy who was spieling, was practically eating the microphone and people were covering their ears because those horns in the station are ridiculously loud.

ID has no Fast Lane either, boo.

Millennium Force also had someone doing the spiel so loud that I could almost see dust falling of the ceiling and speakers. First off, you cannot understand ANTYTHING they are saying, second it seriously hurts to listen, and third it kills the mood.

Yes, someone definitely needs to teach some of these ride ops how to give good microphone.

Have one of the ride ops from Maverick show them. I forget who it was, but with all the sounds he made and things he said, it was truly entertaining to be waiting in the station.

They removed a lot if trees to build ID, not to mention changed Western Cruise drastically.
