License Plate suggestions?

Yay for Cindy's Taurus passing e-check!

I'm glad to hear that, because finding a car and dealing with salespeople is a pain.

Yeah, still sad that a 4 year old car would barely pass an e-check.

Hah, yeah. I've got a '98 SE sitting outside and its beat to hell, the crank shaft, iirc, broke several years ago, requiring an entire rebuild of the trans so I was led to believe. That and the windshield's cracked practically half way right down the middle. That's what Ford gives ya...

Well, an 8 year old car I can see. I ditched my Cavalier when it was 7 years old. It was a good car, but still I knew it wasn't going to last much longer since it had 158k miles on it. Had a crack in the windsheild that I just didn't want to shell out $550 for a new one.

The problem I have is that we are having engine problems due to the engine overheating on its very first long range road trip. The overheat was caused by a coolant leak that wasn't even there at the start of the trip. I had bottled water handy to dump in and make it to the next gas station. A quick fix and we made it back home. The engine hasn't been the same since.

This happened when the car was 3 years and 2 months old. I mention 2 months because that's how far out of the warranty the car was in when this happened, the engine was way under milage at the time at 28k miles and Ford still wouldn't honor it. There's no reason for these problems to happen on a car that's only 3 years and 2 months old. My Cavalier didn't even do anything like this.

When the car dies or when we are ready to plunge into a new car (or van) payment we'll do it. However, it's not going to be a Ford vehicle. My parents have had nothing but trouble with them, my wife's family is currently having trouble with them, and I'm done dealing with this car.

Oh yeah, this was about plates! Heh!

Personalized plates in Ontario run between $200-$300 to get them. I don't know how much renewal of personal plates are, but renewal of my regular plates are $75.

As for Ford products, in particular the Taurus, I have a '99 Sable with 270,000 km. I put a new transmission in it a week after buying it (June 2006). I got it for $2000 and knew it had transmission problems but figured it would hold out for more than a week. I also noticed some writing on top of the engine in white chalk pencil that says 99 Taurus 24 valve so that makes a new transmission AND a new engine. I also had to replace the windshield because of a crack that went east to west. Also, the power locks are gone. On the plus side, the moon roof works, power seats work, leather and interior is in good shape, and the audio system is prime (on account of my replacing it.) I love that it's fully loaded and I can't complain, it's good for a first car. Above all, it gets me to CP and home.

djDaemon is right about how fees are calculated in Michigan. Before 1984 it was based on vehicle weight, but for all vehicles newer than that it is based on MSRP.

So, if a pre-1984 vehicle is being registered today, is it based still on weight? I would have to think so, because otherwise a 1984 Ford would probably only cost around -$325 to register.

Brandon

Its in bad shape now due to wear, but it even due to the trans being shot at only about three years is kinda scary. The exterior isn't that great as its been beaten up, keyed, etc., but that's not even my point. Things have been going on practically since '98 if memory serves me right. Well, that's my dad's taste for you; things that break way too easily.

Yes, a pre-1984 vehicle would still be based on weight.

^^^^ - To do the conversion for Vince (I know his numbers are scary) its only about 30 dollars (read, not monopoly money ;)) for a vanity plate and they actually pay you to renew regular ones.

And his car only had about 50,000 miles on it (about average for a Ford).

I had an 86 Chevy Suburban until 2002 (when I graduated). It was a nice brown on brown with tan interior. Hated driving it in snow though. Slightest bit of ice and it slid like a brick.

Did you have the Suburban in High School? That would have rocked to have one in HS. ;)

Nope, I got it in college (ok, my Dad bought a new one and I got the old one).
I had a Geo Prizm in high school. Burned through 2 clutches in 2 years. My parents claimed I was too rough with it, I said they didn't make the clutches durable enough.

Real?

Hey, our money is pretty nice. I especially like the new silver holograms on them. We have some pretty neat security features on them if you look really close. Plus, all bills are colour coded so that makes it easy. :) It's like a rainbow im my wallet. Blue (5) , purple (10), green (20), red (50), and brown (100, although it isn't much of a rainbow colour.)

*EDIT to fix the mistake that was pointed out below. :)

They are coated in colour? Wouldn't that be like dying the entire currency, thus rendering them illegible? ;)

Ok i go my plates today and the winner is......... CEDRPT1

I had it down to either CEDRPT1, MLNFORC, or RAC4SKY, but i choose CEDRPT1 becuase more non-cedar point fanatics would know what it stands for, I really liked RAC4SKY but most people would never know that that was for Top Thrill Dragster.

I was at Casino Windsor today, and I parked next to a car whose plate said CEDARPNT from Ontario! Just thought I would mention that. :)
