Magnum too old?

Is your shift key broken? The space bar? Spell check? Return key?

Since you've been on here (11 hours now), you've done absolutely nothing but bitch, gripe and moan about things you don't like.

Here's a quick tip: If you want to be taken seriously (or for anything other than a whining fool), learn to spell, to punctuate, and to use correct grammar. If this is too much trouble for you, there are plenty of places on the net to spout your complaints.

First, you haven't been here long enough to determine that "you guys need to stop kissin up to Cedar Point and realize that it has problems too". There are plenty of dissenting opinions on this board, and they're generally welcome - provided that they're well-thought, salient points.

"the rides becoming a little bumpy" is not a well-thought point.

"they really need to find a way to keep this coaster running" is hardly salient. Do you actually believe that this isn't a priority for the park?

Before you post again, please take a moment or three to read the posting guidelines at the top of the page. Spelling counts. Grammar counts. Some thought would be nice.

I don't know what everyone's talking about with Magnum. Yeah its a little rough but there's one solution for that, stop bein a wimp and deal with it. I didn't notice any roughness for ID when I rode on opening day. Magnum was a little rough, but its to be expected in 1-3. As for Intamin's being so much better, the oldest one at CP is only in its 5th year of operation. Wait to see what its like in 10 years, it won't be nearly as smooth.

Actually, the oldest Intamin ride at CP is 25 years old. http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/inside_park/rides/thrill/jrgem.cfm
(Sorry for the long link, the toolbar thingy isn't showing up on my relpy box)

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

For the park, it all comes down to economic feasibility. Though there might be room for improvement, replacing trains and/or lap bars is not a cost efficient solution for a ride that's "becoming a little bumpy."

Honestly, I don't think Magnum is any rougher today than when I took my first ride in '92. Regardless, I'll take Magnum "as is" over an Arrow or Vekoma looper any day.

Magnum is one of the best rides at CP. I think you all have to get over the fact that it is rough. It's still a great coaster. The park has rides that are older then magnum but yet no one is saying anything about them. *** Edited 6/16/2004 6:39:24 PM UTC by Ary***

Goodbye 2005 season!!!!

Magnum is good.........I dont ride it......bunnyhills are my downfall
i was at cedar point around the middle of may and i rode magnum in the second seat. the first half was fine while going through the pretzel it got awfully ruff, ecspecially on the bunny hops. i swore i wouldn't ride it again, but later i rode in the next to the back seat and it was better. i don't know what cp could do to smooth it out. i think jeff was correct in saying that we are used to riding mf and the supermans (sfne-sfdl-sfa).
I agree with fat chris is saying that it does depend on where you sit on the ride.

I usually sit in the 2 or 3 seat (you can always sneak in there easily) and I know that the 2 seat is smoother than the 3 seat.

Those are not the only seats where I can feel the difference, you can find it smoother and bumpier on different spots all over the train.

Any of the new generation Intamins and B&Ms make the Arrows feel like an ass kicking. Magnum hasn't gotten worse over the years, the general coaster public has come to expect smoother rides which they find in all new coasters.

Dan

Exactly Dan...although I can't claim to remember riding Magnum in its early years, I'd imagine most of the people who complain about it getting rougher don't have a lot of rides in past years to compare it to. Or maybe they just have a faulty memory, which wouldn't suprise me at all with the way some of the them conduct themselves on this board.
Chris is right. It does matter where you sit. If you sit near the front, you will more than likely have a bumpy ride. If you sit near the back you will have a smoother ride. But that is one mans experience

Maybe that's why it was bumpy, because I sat closer to the front. I'll have to see if the back is a better ride next time.

Go Ravens and Lakers, don't worry, we'll bounce back.

X at SFMM is frickin awesome, it's a must ride for all coaster fans.

I don't know about all of that. I have been on the front and back and had a much smoother ride in front. The back had great air time, but the lap bar really abused me. Didn't get that with the front.
I know what Magnum needs... more trim brakes! The greatest feeling in the world is cresting the top of the hill, then lurching forward 5 or 6 times going down. Trim brakes are the answer to everything!

Or maybe it's so bumpy because it's sinking?

Seriously, though, it's a little rough sometimes, but that's the nature of the beast - it's a classic 1980's Arrow coaster. It's called character! I'd tend to agree with Mr. Dan & Mr. mantis_man - if you compare Magnum to MF, older Arrow coasters to newer Intamin, you're going to be disappointed.

But if it weren't for Magnum, there'd be no Millennium Force.

Yeah, I said it.

Just because you said it does not make it true. There did not have to be a magnum first. They could have just skipped 200 feet and gone for 300.

Dude, you were 1 year old when Magnum opened. How much do you know about the state of the amusement industry back then? There were no coaster wars, there were no huge coasters, and capital investment at parks didn't exist of that magnitude.

But now they do. All I'm saying is that roller coaster wars exist now, people want the biggest and best, hence the reason MF was built. If magnum wasn't first then another park would have started it. So to say that MF is only here because of magnum is ridiculous.

Mr. perculata,

The Magnum was the start of this whole race for the sky. Cedar Point built an incredible ride, surpassing limits that had never been tested before, and made a statement to the rest of the industry, saying "top that". That, with the growth of technology and help of a healthy economy in the 90's, is why we have a race today. I have no problem believing that rides like Steel Force, MF, TTD, Supermen, etc., etc., are possible because Magnum made people believe there are no limits.

By the way, I'm not claiming to be any expert, as coasters are just a hobby for me. So I'm doing my best not to sound too much like an expert!

Magnum is still my favorite coaster of all time. Maybe my opinion is biased because this is my second summer of working on it. I think the thing that makes Magnum the best is the personality of the ride. There are so many things that change the ride such as where you sit, what train your in, and the weather. Therefore Magnum is always exciting because you'll never get the same ride twice on Magnum.
