Magnum too old?

I havn't been to CP yet this year, but I will never believe that Magnum is too old! Magnum was my 1st. tall coaster @ CP and no matter how bumpy it becomes, I still think people will love riding it. If it does become a problem, i'm sure CP will fix it.

Maybe some of you are riding a totally different Magnum than I am, but in my opinion, it's just as fun as always and I still love riding it.

Times are changing, however. Often times people come to the ride entrance asking what ride it is, and after I tell them it's the Magnum, I get the painful response of, "What's that?" Maggie deserves better than that.

I totally agree with CP bound the magnum is the best coaster ever built. I ride it every year in the front seat in the back car and to me it hasn't change one bit, maybe we are all just getting older and getting used to riding smother rides like MF

I've been saying for ages that they need a real sign at the entrance. With the trees filled in as they are, it's not obvious that the entrance is the entrance. It could be the entry for the restrooms for all a guest might know.

Actaully when you said that i obviously haven't been to CP that much your wrong. I'm just agreeing that people do get spolied about the smoothness of MF, and TTD. They compare it to Magnum. Magnum is still smooth, but it is 14 or 15 years old. It's been around the block.It's had it's share of wear and tear. I do agree with some other people when they say that ID and corckscrew are rough because they are arrows. Corckscrew hurts my back. As you can see from my birth date I'm only a few months older than the ride. I didn't even ride it untill I lost my fear of coasters in 2002. So I don't know anything about Magnum's past. I know in car 1 seat 3 the extra airtime you get there can hurt if the seatbelt isn't tight enough. I am spoiled by the new rides. MF, Raptor, TTD and the other smooth new rides don't have the same wheel asemblies as Magnum. Magnum has always had a very loose wheel asemblies (sp..?) making it bumpier. It's a classic coaster. Raptor turned 10 this year still as smooth as ever. Different types of rides.

If you really want to know how Magnum is riding today look to Dan. He has probably ridden it more than most of the people on this board put together.

Almost every year since '83, I have made a 2-3 day trip to Cedar Point. This year I was there from 6/19 through 6/21 and I rode Magnum dozens of times. I read this thread before I left home and I wanted to see if Magnum actually was different than I remember.

I always ride Car 1/Row 3, so I had the same position each time I rode. When riding in the red and black trains, I did not notice any drastic difference in ride smoothness from years past. However, the blue train was very, very jerky each time I rode in it. So, that may account for the reason why some people think the ride is bumpy and others say it is the same...it just depends on which train, or for that matter, which car in a train one rides in.

Jeff, great point about Magnum's lack of a significant entrance. That is a huge disservice. Those trees were seedlings when she opened but now it is lost in the woods, literally.

I'd like to see a sign befitting of the ride. What about pennants (ala Jacobs Field) with all the the years it was voted best steel coaster? I was shocked...and I mean SHOCKED...when I saw that it was a walk on last week.

I wish they could bring back the Storm Trooper entrance sign. Out of all the old entrance signs that are gone, I miss this one the most.

Now I feel the need to hunt down a gallery of the old character signs. There is one floating around on the net somewhere I hope.

Storm Trooper sign? Sounds really cool. Anybody got a picture of that? Was it used on Magnum back in the day?

One thing we noticed about the ride this year, was that it seemed to be alot faster than what we remembered. Normally I can keep my arms up the whole ride; but those bunnyhills had me white knuckled all the way back.

Sure, Magnum can give a bumpy ride once in awhile,but will NEVER be as painful as the first two weeks of operation in 1989!

For those of you that didn't have the chance to ride it when it was brand new, imagine sitting down in the train with no padding whatsoever. Plain fiberglass and then pulling the bare-metal lapbar down across your lap. Then to top it off,the bunny hills were brutal due to the fact of no upstop wheels. During that year, it had upstop plates like Gemini & Mine Ride.

The good thing with the plates were that they provided a nice light show at night!;)

Me too jeff, but, I really didnt notice much at 9 years old. I just have to wonder what gave Cedar Point the influence to use Westminister font on Gemini.

I kinda think it feels a little like jurrasic park (I dont know what came first). The cement writing and the recording ride information kinda has a jurrasic park feel to it. I don't think Magnum would really be Magnum if it was smooth.

My problem with magnum isn't the lateral g's, or the lapbars, or anything other than the fact that my spine is compressed at the bottom of the hill. 150 feet on a arrow coaster should be the limit, they are just too bumpy and uncomfortable. The only part I enjoyed on Maggie are the bunny hops. My head killed me after, and so did my back. The pullouts are just painful, I don't care if its old or not. Gemini is cold, and being a little bit smaller, it is a GREAT ride.

Before Millennium Force was built I would say that Magnum XL 200 was my favorite as the park. Now that Millennium Force is around it's my favorite, but I still ride Magnum because it's a fun ride. Sure it's a little bumpy but you have to enjoy a little bumpiness in a coaster. I dont notice it being bumpy until the pretzel loops. I think it's a fun ride and I think it needs a sign like what Millennium Force has because when you look at this ride it was always rated #1 steel roller coaster for how many years? Someone back me up on that. It never was beaten until Millennium Force was built. This past year I believe it was still in the Top 10. And I don't believe in the rumors that still keep going on saying that Magnum is sinking. To me that's bull, if it was sinking, don't you think Cedar Point would've done something? And if it was sinking it wouldn't hurt the ride because the only part that's in the sand is the pretzel loops. So to me I feel like Magnum is only 7 years old.

Millennium Force *yawn*, what's that? Oh, it's that big blue kiddie coaster on opposite side of park!

What a bunch of wusses complaining that Magnum XL-200 (BEST COASTER IN THE WORLD), is rough!!

I think I'll do just fine without the sign...whenever I need an awesome ride with a relatively short line, I head straight for Magnum. As much as I'd love more people to be able to enjoy Magnum, I'd much rather enjoy it myself with a shorter line.

And, yes, I am a selfish person.

I think the magnum isn't any different than it was in 1989. It's still the best, I think everyone should stop Ragging on it, if it wasn't for Magnum we probobly wouldn't have MF or any other hyper out there
